Introduction
Sneha Sadan is an institute dedicated for the Education, Research and rehabilitation of persons with Mental Retardation. The training college for Special Education is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi and affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam. As part of the teacher training Programme Sneha Sadan offers one academic year teacher training courses leading to the degree B.Ed Special Education [Mental Retardation].
Course And its General Objectives
B.Ed Special Education [Mental Retardation] is a course affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University and approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. Special Education is an emerging field with the Human Resources requirement having increased in the past years. As persons with disabilities [Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and full participation] Act 1995 provides for education as right to every child with disability, the role of special educators has further been emphasized.
Keeping in view the need for special teachers at various levels, the B.Ed Special Education [Mental Retardation] course has been started. This course will educate and train human resources to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop competencies and skills to impart education and training effectively to all children with Mental Retardation.
On completion of the B.Ed Special Education [Mental Retardation ] course, the teacher can function as
-Coordinator/In charge/Principal of special schools for children with mental retardation.
-Resource room teachers in regular schools where slow learners and children with learning problem are found
-Special Educator in special schools, service centers for the MR, rehabilitation centers, sheltered workshops, composite Rehabilitation centers, District Rehabilitation centers etc.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who have passed any graduate level degree examination which is recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University with 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grade are eligible for admission. SC/ST candidates need only a minimum pass in the qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Communities (SEBC) will be given 3% concession in aggregate marks. Candidates belonging to Other Eligible Communities (OEC) will be given 5% concession in aggregate marks. Candidates who are parents or siblings of children with mental retardation will be given 3% concession in aggregate marks. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Disability Studies (BMR/BRS/BRSC, etc) and a Masters degree in Disability studies with Mental Retardation as elective subject are eligible for a weightage of 5% marks.

Number of seats.
The total number of seats will be 30
Reservation of seats.
50% of total seats are under management, provided they satisfy eligibility conditions prescribed by the University. Of the remaining seats 35% shall be filled on general merit and 15% shall be filled by candidates belonging SC/ST and other backward communities.
Award of certificates
B.Ed Special Education [Mental Retardation] issued by MahatmaGandhiUniversity.
Duration of the course.
-The duration of B.Ed. Special Education programme shall be 2 semesters
-The duration of each semester shall be 90 days spread over 18 working weeks.
-A student may be permitted to complete the programme, on valid reasons, within a period of 6 semesters from the date of commencement of the first semester of the programme.
Medium of instruction and examination
The medium of instruction and examination of the course shall be English.

The rates of fee will be charged as prescribed by MahatmaGandhiUniversity and Sneha Sadan.

Hostel Accommodation
Hostel accommodation will be provided to out station candidates on request on first come first basis.

- Attested photocopy of mark list of all parts of qualifying examination.
(Application without attested copies of all mark lists will be summarily rejected)
- Attested photocopy of Degree certificate/Provisional certificate of qualifying examination.
- Attested photocopy of certificate from competent authority in support of special reservation(SC/ST/OEC/SEBC)
- Attested copy of certificate by Medical board certifying that the candidate is a sibling or parent of child with Mental Retardation.
- Conduct certificate from Head of the Institution last attended. (In original)
- Copy of the equivalency/Eligibility certificate stating that qualifying examination is recognized M.GUniversity for seeking admission to B.Ed Special Education(MR) course. (For those who have passed qualifying examination from other Universities/institutions out side of the State).

Discipline
The candidates admitted shall be subjected to strict discipline inside and outside the campus and also in the hostel where accommodation is provided. The candidates are expected to maintain decorum, decency and discipline throughout their pursuance of the course with the staff, faculty and other supporting workers. The hostlers should follow the prescribed rules in the hostel. Infringement or violation of rules shall result in rustication from the hostel for period as decided by the management of the institute.
Use of mobile phones cinematic dance and fashion show in the campus is strictly prohibited.
Ragging is a crime prohibited under law. Anyone found indulging in the act of ragging will be punished by management and the law enforcing authorities.
