INFORMATION FOR PART-TIME STUDENTS SEEKING FINANCIAL AID
· Part-time students are not eligible for institutional aid (that is aid from the University of Hartford).
· Matriculated AND registered students in good academic standing may be eligible for federal financial aid (Stafford Loans, Pell Grants). The amount of aid they qualify for depends on the total number of credits they have accumulated. Whether some of the total amount will be subsidized by the Federal Government depends on the EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) and the cost of attendance. That calculation is done at the federal level, not by the University.
· The process for securing financial aid is sequential and is as follows:
1. Apply for admission and submit official transcripts, including high school final transcript.
2. Go online and complete the FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.gov/. The school code for the University of Hartford is 001422.Supplying that number means the FAFSA calculations will be forwarded to our financial aid office. The student will also receive a student aid report (SAR) directly from FAFSA.
3. Complete the part-time student financial aid application. Download it from http://admission.hartford.edu/finaid/forms.
4. If this is the student’s first federal loan, the student must complete the entrance counseling and master promissory notice (MPN) at https://studentloans.gov.
5. Once the student is accepted, a transfer equivalency report will be generated and we will know how many credits the student has accumulated and what the student’s status is (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior). Loan amounts are based on student standing.
6. The student must then register for enough courses to be considered half-time (two in a regular semester or one in a Saturday session).
· Students who wish to meet with a financial aid counselor to discuss their particular situations should request an appointment with the financial aid officer assigned to their degree program. Paralegal students should contact Priscilla Janssen at or 860-768-4296.
