Spy Night Ideas
Cyanide Pills
Every good spy carries a cyanide pill. Ours are just pretend. The Leader sits on a chair at the front of the team with a bowl of Smarties. The teams take it in turns in relay to run to the chair, crawl through its legs, collect a pill from the Leader and take it back to a bowl at the front of their team. The winner is the team with the most pills after a time limit. They can then be shared between team members.
Find the Bomb
You'll need to make some dynamite sticks. You can do this by wrapping five paper towel rolls with red tissue paper (construction paper works also). Tape all of them into a bundle using black electrical duct tape. If you have spare wires or coils you can add those.
The most important elements is a kitchen timer or similar. This needs to be one that actually make a slight ticking sound. Tape this onto your creation as well.
To play the game wind up the timer and hide the dynamite. Tell the players their training mission is to retrieve the bomb before it goes off.
Laser Challenge - yarn/string/crepe paper streamers, mini bells
Set aside an area to set up this game. You will string the yarn around as lasers. One each yarn laser attach a mini bell. Criss-cross the yarn so that players will need to crawl under, over, up and down to make it through the laser.
Set up an obstacle at one end of the laser beams. Start the players at the other end. The object is to make it through the lasers, retrieve the object, and come back without ringing the bells.
Make Secret Agent ID badges - with thumb print or a secret agent name
For a secret agent name - pick one word from each side
Master of Disguise Relay
Joeys line up in relay formation. Next to each team is a set of items for a disguise - e.g. hat, wig, coat, moustache. One at a time Joeys put on the disguise, run through a simple obstacle course, meet up with their contact (Leader), give the secret handshake or recite a secret phrase, receive an item from their contact and return to their team. Repeat until all team members have had a turn. The item could be a piece of a puzzle that they then need to put together when they have all the pieces, or a piece of a cipher and a coded message that they need to solve.
Minefield Training
One by one an agent steps on a square. They are told if they are safe or have stepped on a mine.
If they are safe they can move to another square. If the mine goes off they return to the back of the line.
Secret Agent Training
- Facial Identification - whose eyes and mouth
- Code Breaking - various codes can be used e.g. symbol code, pig pen cipher, cross code cipher, Polybius grid cipher, Morse code cipher, reverse alphabet cipher, cut out decoder, cipher wheel, invisible ink
- Bomb Detonation - lots of blown up black balloons - one contains the bomb (red confetti)
- Laser Beam Training
- Target Practice
Secret Agent Kim's Game
Add some secret agent items to a tray - e.g. sunglasses, disguise, water pistol etc. Joeys have to look at the tray for a minute or so. The tray is then taken away and the Joeys have to write or draw the items that were on the tray.
Alternative - have a grid of random items and show the Joeys. Have them turn away and move some objects around. Can they return the items to their original position?
Secret Handshake - learn this top secret handshake before your top secret mission
Target Shooting
Nerf guns at a target (circle of coloured circles on black foam core, or a silhouette of a person), or use water pistols to knock a ball off the top of a milk bottle.
