Requirements for Undergraduate Students enrolling in MEcon / PhD Courses
Candidates may select up to four courses offered under the syllabus for the Master of Economics (MEcon) degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) as third or fourth year economics electives in the Disciplinary Economics Electives (List A), subject to availability and the approval of the Programme Director and the MEcon Programme Director/ Faculty Higher Degrees Committee Chairman. Each of these MEcon / PhD courses carries 6 credits, unless otherwise specified.
In addition, applications will only be considered if candidates:
1. Achieved a CGPA of 3.5 or above at the time they submit their application; and
2. Obtained a B+ or above in the following undergraduate courses:
- ECON2101/ECON2210 Intermediate Microeconomics
- ECON2102/ECON2220 Intermediate Macroeconomics
- ECON0701/ECON2280 Introductory Econometrics
Approval to enroll in MEcon / PhD courses is case-based. As a general rule, approval will not be granted to students to take courses that are similar to existing undergraduate courses in both level and content.
Application Instructions
1. The applicant shall complete Part A only, and should type and submit the signed application form with supporting documentation to the Faculty Office located at Room 401, 4/F, K.K. Leung Building. The office hours of the Faculty Office are Monday to Friday – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:50 pm. Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays – closed.
2. Applications with incomplete information or insufficient documentation will not be processed.
3. Applicants will be informed of the results by the Faculty Office.
