Support Specialist II
Purpose
Purpose:
Provide support to faculty for grant submission, student hiring, laboratory supply and equipment purchasing, edit grant proposals and papers. Assist with preparing and publishing departmental newsletter and other publicity material. Support Department Administrative Assistant and Academic Advisor as needed.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Assist faculty members with filling out essential forms necessary for research grant preparation, submission, and execution, and progress report writing.

Function 2:
Assist faculty members with writing and editing grant applications and publications.

Function 3:
Assist faculty members with their grant budget account, record keeping, and purchasing.
5% Time
Function 4:
Assist faculty in identifying sources of funding for their research.

Function 5:
Assist faculty and administrative assistant in hiring teaching and research assistants by preparing the necessary forms for appointing and evaluating their performance.

Function 6:
Collect and write content for departmental newsletter; print, publish and mail out the newsletter.

Create and write departmental publicity material.

Function 8:
Assist the BE Administrative Assistant with collecting data and preparing survey responses for the department, and scheduling of daily appointments for the Chair. Carry out the essential tasks for the BE Administrative Assistant when she is away from the office. Provide minimal Academic Advisor support when Academic Advisor is away for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent. 3 years of secretarial/clerical experience. Strong writing ability with high skills in grammar, spelling and creative writing. Computer skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. 1 plus years of experience with grant preparation, experience with preparing publicity material such as brochures, posters and announcements. Experience with computer graphics and experience in writing content and publishing newsletters. Experience with editing documents. Very detail-oriented. Able to use various software applications for grant activities such as submission of the application and reports. Experience with DEFINE (UT Arlington's data management/accounting system), administrative experience, and/or working with forms in a university setting.
