OMHSAS ANNOUNCES 18-HOUR WELLNESS TRAINING for OLDER ADULT CERTIFIED PEER SPECIALIST
The Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) in collaboration with New Jersey Department of Human Services, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce a training opportunity for Older Adult Certified Peer Specialists as part of Pennsylvania’s 2012 Transformation Transfer Initiative (TTI) Grant Project.
The 18-hour Wellness Training is being offered by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to a class of 20 PA certified peer specialists with priority given to those who have completed the 18 hour Older Adult CPS training.
The Wellness curriculum contains modules related to co-morbidity and premature mortality, lifestyle factors for health and wellness, overcoming fear of services, coordination of care, use of professional as well as low cost and no cost services, and modules on specific health topics such as metabolic syndrome, smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise and oral health.
The Wellness training is primarily an initiative to create jobs for CPS working with older adults; therefore prime consideration will be given to applicants who can assure that they will be working with an older adult population after training is completed.
A limited number of part-time paid internships will be available in the southeast region of the state to CPSs who have successfully completed both the Older Adult training and the Wellness training.
Training, tuition, and hotel accommodations are paid for under the TTI Grant along with a stipend for travel and meals. This training will be held May 22-24, 2012 at Hyatt Place, King of Prussia
Please see the attached application for more information. Applications must be postmarked by April 27, 2012
