Integrity Personal Reflection- A Letter to Your Future Self
“Mother in Mannville” Paired Activity
You have just read three pieces that exemplify the importance of an individual’s integrity. Jerry, Michael Phelps, and Lance Armstrong are all people who have shown us how great life can be when people perceive a person as having integrity. They have also shown us how people who have or are perceived as having integrity are capable of making decisions that do not demonstrate integrity. Their stories have also illustrated some pretty extensive consequences that can ensue after one destroys his or her reputation of having integrity. Using what you have read in the short story and two articles, write a letter to your 16 year old self that identifies the importance of always having integrity and offers advice for how to maintain an integrity driven existence.
In your letter, be sure to include:
· Evidence that proves why having integrity is important
· The benefits that one can receive when one’s reputation leads people to believe that he or she has integrity
· The types of choices that can lead to one’s reputation of integrity being destroyed
· The role that one’s reputation plays in other people’s perception of their having integrity
· Possible scenarios that may lead one to make a decision that destroys their integrity and ways to safeguard against them happening
· Any advice that you think is appropriate for your individual circumstance. Ask yourself if you have any qualities that could lead to trouble if you are not careful, and identify the possible dangers if they are not addressed. What can you do to prohibit your integrity from being questioned?
