Overview:
In this course you will:
ODiscover and explore geometric concepts
OApply these concepts to real world situations
OMake connections from concrete examples to abstract concepts using geometric terms and theorems
Daily Routines:
OClass will be approximately 90 minutes in duration
OStudents are not permitted to line up at the door prior to the bell for dismissal
OBell work will be assigned at the beginning of each class (students will have approximately 10 minutes to complete this)
OI will briefly go over the agenda and learning goal(s) for the day (scales will also be posted for students to reference)
ONote taking is required daily (All notes must be Cornell style)

Participation in Class:
Success requires active participation, and I want you to succeed. Therefore you will be required to take an active role in your learning, and you will have ample opportunity to do so. This class will involve numerous activities and styles of learning, and your success will depend upon cooperation, preparation, and participation. This participation will be included as a part of your overall course grade.

Quizzes / Tests:
For all quizzes and tests given, you must show your work where appropriate in order to receive full credit. This will also work to your advantage in the event that you get a final answer incorrect but I can use your work to trace back to the original error. (In this case, you may receive partial credit for the portion of the problem completed correctly.)
Quizzes will be given frequently, to assess your understanding of covered material. Some quizzes will be announced, and others will be unannounced “pop” quizzes. Initial_____
Tests will be given at the conclusion of each chapter. If you miss a quiz or test due to an illness or school-sanctioned athletic/extracurricular activity, you must make up the assessment missed after school or during lunch. This must be done by the next class period. Cases of extended illness may be handled on an individual basis (documentation from a doctor will be required); please see me to discuss alternative arrangements.

Homework Assignments:
Homework will be assigned regularly to reinforce the concepts reviewed in class. It will be collected and graded based on effort and completion, not necessarily accuracy.Students will also be required to turn in Cornell Notes each week. If your homework is not turned in on time points will be deducted from your grade each day until the assignment IS turned in. You will also receive demerits for missing/incomplete work. After three days you will receive a zero.
When you are absent from class, it will be your responsibility to obtain and complete missed assignments. You are required to check for all of your assignments prior to returning to class. I will not be able to provide your missed assignments during class time. You will be allowed the same number of days to make up any missed assignments as the number of days you were absent. (If you missed one day, you have one day to submit missed work, e.g.)

Journaling / Notes:
You will be required to purchase a 1-subject spiral notebook for daily note taking. This will be placed in the binder that is required for all students. Notebooks will be graded at various times throughout the grading period.

Projects / Group Work:
Projects will be assigned throughout the year. Projects will vary in scope and complexity and will include detailed expectations as well as a rubric for determining your grade. You will complete some projects on your own, and others while working in small groups or partnerships. When working in groups, you will be expected to contribute to the task. Your contributions and work ethic will be evaluated by your group members.

Academic Integrity:
Academic integrity is expected. In the event that a student violates any provision of Pinellas County School’s Code of Student Conduct policy on specific acts of misconduct, a grade of zero will be recorded for each violation. Students cannot make up assignments in this case.

Student Responsibilities:
Electronic devices are to be put away at ALL TIMES during class unless otherwise instructed. No exceptions. Cell phones may NOT be used as calculators. A calculator will be provided for you. You will have the option to surrender your cellular phone at the beginning of class (in an assigned pocket behind my desk). If your phone is taken out during class you will have two options, (1) surrender it to be placed behind my desk or (2) referral to administration. I am NOT responsible for cellular phones that are taken out in my classroom.

Food and drinks are not allowed in the classroom at any time (with the exception of bottled water).

Hall passes will not be given during the beginning 10 minutes of class or during the final 10 minutes of class. You are expected to use the 7-minute passing period for any pressing needs.
