Summary:

Constructing the Future have an exciting opportunity for a young person from the Burnley area wanting to pursue a career inGround works through a 2 year Apprenticeship. The successful individual must have a desire to hold a future career in the Construction Industry and be prepared to travel to either Kirkham or Preston for College one day a week.

Description:

General Construction Operatives are involved in a range of practical tasks that help skilled construction workers; this may include:-

  • Digging trenches
  • Mixing and laying concrete
  • Operating machinery
  • Using equipment such as cement mixers, drills and pumps
  • Moving, loading and unloading materials

The work can also involve driving a fork-lift truck and other construction site vehicles. The work is often physically demanding.

Operatives are often responsible for keeping the site tidy and looking after tools and equipment. Also following instructions from skilled workers forms an important part of the work. They wear protective safety clothing such as a hard hat, high visibility jacket, safety boots and overalls at all times.

-Mentoring and support in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)

-Exposure to a number of long term placements with local contractors providing a varied and quality apprenticeship experience

-One day release at a local college

Throughout your first year of apprenticeship you will be paid national apprenticeship minimum wage (currently £3.50 an hour, increasing to £3.70 April 18 onwards) progressing onto national minimum wage in your second year.

Hours of work will be 8:00am – 4pm, Monday – Friday with one day per week in College.

Constructing the Future works in partnership with CITB to provide young people with the opportunity to gain skills and employment within the Construction industry. We do this by piecing together a number of long term placements to make up your 2 year apprenticeship.
