Petition:
Received by Assistant Director (Local Environment) / Petition to half the tree sizes on Warwick Road – between houses 133 and 167 / 13 / The Neighbourhoods and Green Spaces Manager responded on 14 July 2011 confirming that the City Council street trees are under proactive arboricultural management, the primary reason being the safety of the general public and property. The City’s tree stock is maintained because of the various benefits they produce.
Crown reduction is not a common practice; is of limited benefit and requires higher levels of maintenance and associated costs. Large numbers of trees have been too heavily pruned, dying prematurely, or have been felled. It is therefore very important that the Council actively cares for and values the remaining trees.
He concluded that property owners were able to fix net covers over their gutters to prevent leaf build up.
