BOARD OF EDUCATION
June 13, 2017
The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Braxton
County Board of Education Office. The following members were present:
Jill Cooper, President
Dave Hoover, Vice President
Shane Brown
Van Carr - Absent
Brad Shingler
The work session began at 5:05 p.m. Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to
approve the priority list for phase one of the construction projects.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
After a short break, Jill Cooper called the regular board meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Jill Cooper led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dave Hoover led a non-denominational prayer.
BCMS LSIC shared a presentation.
Dave Hoover moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the consent agenda items
(approval of May 23, 2017 meeting minutes, payment of bills, budget transfers and
supplements, transportation requests and reports, request to be released from Braxton County
Schools to attend Gilmer County Schools, and request to be released from Braxton County
Schools to attend Clay County Schools).
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following rescission of
termination of contract at the end of 2016-17 school year for professionals:
1. William Wells – TSS – Countywide
2. Roger Singleton – TSS – Countywide
3. Jessica Stout – to be placed as K/1 Split Teacher at Split Grade Teacher at Flatwoods
Elementary
4. Isaac Casto – to be placed as LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) at Sutton Elementary
5. Rachel Butcher – to be placed as LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) at Sutton Elementary
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Shane Brown moved and Brad Shingler seconded the following rescission of Termination
of Contracts for the end of 2016-17 school year for service personnel:
1. Dawn Nottingham – Pre-K Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide/ECCAT at
Burnsville Elementary
2. Kathy Facemire – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide at
BCHS
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the mutual consent agreements
for the 2017-18 school year for service personnel:
1. Patty Fussell – to be placed as Head Start Social Service Aide/Paraprofessional Countywide
2. Linda Leggett – to be placed as Head Start Social Service Aide - Countywide
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following mutual consent
agreements for 2017-18 for professionals:
1. Brenda Gregory – from Grade 5 to Grade 4 Teacher at Flatwoods Elementary
2. Danielle Berry – from LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) to Grade 3 Teacher at Sutton
Elementary
3. Melisa Keener – from LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) to 5th Grade Teacher at Sutton
Elementary
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following resignation –
professional:
1. Lynn Brogan – 3rd Grade Teacher at Davis Elementary effective June 30, 2017
2. Sheba Kending – Science Teacher at BCHS – retiring as of June 30, 2017
3. Sarah Critchfield – PSSN Teacher at Burnsville Elementary effective June 30, 2017
4. Justin Whitford – Principal at Davis Elementary effective June 30, 2017
5. Mary Beth Whitford – Math Teacher at BCHS effective June 30, 2017
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Shane Brown moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments for professionals:
1. Sharon Desper – 21st Century High School Credit Recovery Teacher and/or Site
Coordinator effective retroactive May 31, 2017
2. Carla Mauser – Title I Teacher (Itinerant) at Little Birch Elementary effective beginning
of 2017-18 school year
3. William Hamilton – Physical Education/Health Teacher (Itinerant) at Sutton Elementary
and BCMS effective beginning of 2017-18 school year
4. Anne Golinsky – Physical Education/Health Teacher Little Birch Elementary effective
the beginning of the 2017-18 school year
5. Dustin Wood – 4th grade teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective beginning of 2017-
18 school year
6. Krystal Jones – 3rd grade teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective beginning of 2017-18
school year
7. Mahala Cutlip – 5/6 split grade teacher at Flatwoods Elementary effective beginning of

Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments for service personnel:
1. Victoria Allen – Kindergarten Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide/ECCAT
(Itinerant) at Sutton Elementary effective beginning of 2017-18 school year
2. Melissa Jones – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide
(Itinerant) at Sutton Elementary effective beginning of 2017-18 school year
3. Wilma Rhodes – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide
(Itinerant) at Burnsville Elementary effective beginning of 2017-18 school year
4. Cindy Pendry – Pre-School Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation

Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the employment –
extracurricular:
1. James McNemar – Assistant Football Coach at BCHS effective 2017-18 sport season
2. William Lunceford – Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at BCHS effective 2017-18
sport season
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following resignation –
extracurricular:
Justin Whitford – Head Girls Soccer Coach at BCHS
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve fundraisers for Davis
Elementary, Sutton Elementary, BCMS and BCHS.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Susan Schiefer spoke at length about the process and plans for the grant for Sutton
Elementary and requested money from the Board. Shane Brown moved and Dave Hoover
seconded to approve authorization for the Let’s Play Construction grant from Dr Pepper
Snapple Group and KaBoom requirements to be put on next agenda to be approved by Board.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded the approval posting Pre-School Special
Needs Itinerant Teacher Position.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the posting of a full-time
School Nurse Position
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Superintendent Dilly reported on Community Care.
Shane Brown moved and Brad Shingler seconded to adjourn.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be held on June 27,
2017 at 6 p.m. at Braxton County Board of Education Office, 98 Carter Braxton Drive, Sutton,
WV. There will be a reception to recognize retirees and Employees of the Year.
