Why get involved with Shelter?
More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, help lines, and national network of services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive, and we tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies and practice.
Shelter has a vision for greater volunteer involvement to maximise the additional value and benefits which volunteers can bring to all areas of our activities and has the policies and procedures in place to realise this vision. We are looking for the right volunteer to join our fun and friendly team.
About Shelter Trading Ltd
Shelter Trading Limited is a Company in its own right with its own Board of Directors, and is owned by Shelter, the homelessness charity. All the profits generated by the trading business’s activities are transferred to the charity to help to finance Shelter’s mission.
Main Tasks
- Checking and filing shop returns
- Assisting with month end duties
- Possible bank and balance reconciliations
- Possible opportunities in other areas within STL finance e.g. Purchasing
Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to organise your own work, manage your time and work on your own initiative
- Good level of user understanding ofWord and Excel
- An interest in finance
- A background or a basic knowledge of retail is not necessary but would be ideal
- The ability to work as part of a team and a friendly attitude
- Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health and safety, equality and diversity and confidentiality
Induction, Learning Development
To enable you take part in this opportunity Shelter will
- Provide a volunteer pack including a Handbook and all Policies and Procedures
- Provide personalised volunteering plan, covering support and development
- Provide e-learning: Equality & Diversity, Health and Safety, Data Protection
- Reimburse ‘out of pocket’ expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy
