From The Principal

Welcome to Term 4

Itrust everyone had an enjoyable spring break and had the opportunity to spend time with families and friends. I have enjoyed hearing the children talk about some of their exciting adventures.

Term 4 is shaping up to be another busy term and is 10 weeks long.

Car Park upgrade

Thanks to Somerset Council and Beta-Build, the main car-park received a much-needed upgrade over the holidays. A range of safety measures have been implemented to ensure all users, especially children, are as safe as possible while entering and exiting the school grounds. Please be aware that the former bus zone is now a “No Standing” zone. This is not a drop-off, pick-up area and we would appreciate all car-park users ensuring this area remains clear at all times.

Resource Centre Air Conditioning

It has taken many years but persistence has finally paid off. The Resource Centre was fitted out with air-conditioning over the break which will significantly improve teaching and learning conditions in this space. A huge thank you to Minden P&C – current and past- who have conducted many fundraising events to achieve this goal.

Pre-Service teacher

The year 3 classroom have welcomed Ms Kelsie Swan this week who is completing her internship with us. This is the final stage of teacher training before graduating and Kelsie will be responsible for running the classroom under the supervision of Ms Einam during this time. I know our community will make Kelsie feel welcome and support her with this important milestone.

BVSSSA League Tag Gala Day

Students in years 3 to 6 will be provided with an opportunity to participate in this event on Thursday 20 October with other small schools in our cluster. The event will take place at the Lowood Recreational Grounds with representatives from Ipswich NRL Foundation running the competition. Notices for nominated students will be sent out early next week.

Prep Interviews and Orientation Afternoons

2017 Prep children will get to experience a range of typical activities by participating in the four “Step into Prep” transition afternoons which will be held on Thursday afternoons commencing at 1:45pm: 13th and 27th October, 10th and 24th November. Interviews will be held in the mornings prior to these sessions. Should you require further information about the afternoon sessions or how to book an interview time, please contact the office on 0754 257 222.

Enrolments 2017

If you know of someone who is interested in becoming part of our Minden school community in 2017, please encourage them to collect an enrolment pack as soon as possible. Similarly, should your child/ren not be returning to Minden in 2017, we would appreciate being informed as soon as possible. Many of our classes are either nearing or are over capacity and student numbers in various year levels help determine class formations and teacher placements.

Swimming

Minden has booked Woodlands again this year for our swimming program. This will commence next Tuesday 11 October and run through to week nine. Swimming is part of the HPE curriculum and it is an expectation that all students will attend lessons unless there is a valid reason for non-participation. As in previous years, the timetable for Tuesdays will be altered somewhat to accommodate the change in routine. Please ensure bathers are appropriate: one-piece for girls and a “rashie” or sleeved shirt for sun-protection. We accumulate an enormous amount of lost property from swimming so please label all items. Volunteers are gratefully appreciated, especially for the junior classes. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are able to assist in the pool.

School Photos

Year 6 students are not permitted to wear the Senior Shirt as this is not official school uniform. Please contact the office should you have any queries.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

This event will take place in week 5 on Monday 31 October and Thursday 3 November. Interviews will be held in the Resource Centre. Booking information will be provided in the next newsletter.

Volunteers Afternoon Tea

Minden is blessed to have so many parents who willingly give up their time to help support our school community. From working in classrooms, collating Book Club and Book Fair, working in the P&C, tuck-shop, selling raffle tickets, Sunday markets, Commonwealth Banking and doing a multitude of other things, your contribution genuinely makes a difference and our school is a better place as a result! To show our appreciation, we are holding an afternoon tea on Wednesday 26th October from 3:15pm onwards. If you have helped out in any way during the year, we would really like to see you there.

School Chaplain

Welcome back to school for the last term of the year. It is hard to believe that the year is almost over. I hope that this week goes smoothly in your family and that all the students move back into school routine without too many hurdles.

The Year 5/6 students have headed off to camp this week, I was unable to join them this time, but know they will have a marvellous time with their friends and an opportunity to make new friends from other schools in our district. I look forward to their return, and hearing all their tales of adventure during the week.
