Finding the Online CPD System
The SBC Online CPD Management system now has an easy-to-remember direct link:
This link will take you directly to the old address, which you should add to your bookmarks.
Alternatively, you can access the system through the Scottish Borders Council website:
- Go to
- Click the A-Z Directory link
- Click the Education and Lifelong Learning link
- Click the CPD Management System link
Logging In to the System
You can browse the courses (see Section C) without being logged in, but you must be logged in to book courses and to access previous feedback for courses you might be interested in.
B1: How do I obtain my login details?
If you do not have any login details yet, please see the appendices.
Appendix 1: Registering for the Online System (for new users to SBC who have never received login details before)
Appendix 2: Retrieving login details that have been lost (for existing users who know they once had a login but have forgotten their username and/or password, and/or changed their email address)
B2: How do I use mylogin details to access the system?
Fill your username and password into the boxes on the right-hand side of the Course List page and then click Login.
Please note that the password you receive from the system is Case Sensitive. You must type it exactly as it is, including capital letters. Alternatively, you can copy and paste it from your email. Once logged in, you can change your password to something more memorable.
Underneath the login boxes are a number of useful links, including CPD FAQs and PRD Guidelines.
Finding Out About Available Courses
You can browse any of the available courses for the current term without being logged in, but you can’t book courses unless you are logged in.
C1: How do I find the courses?
Click View Courses A-Z to scroll a list of all the available courses in alphabetical order. Course titles are grouped by content, eg all the ICT courses are together.
Click View Courses By Date to scroll a list of all the available courses in chronological order. Some courses are run more than once. View Courses By Datewill show all the ‘instances’ of a repeated course, organised by date.
Click the separateLeadership Programmetab to scroll a list of all the available courses for managers and leaders.
C2: How do I view course details?
Click the blue underlined title of any course to be taken to the details:
The Course Details page will tell you all the information you need about the course, eg aims and outcomes, who the course is intended for, where and when it will be held, how much it costs, etc.
Look for the Go Back link to return to the Course list.
C3: How do I access previous feedback?
If the course has been run before, and if there is feedback available, you can access this through the Course Details page. You must be logged in to see the feedback.
Look for the red link at the top of the page. If there is no red link then that means there is no feedback available.
Click the red link to see a list of dates on which the course ran. Clicking the blue underlined View feedback from this instance link will take you to the feedback. If the course has run several times, you can choose to look at individual dates or see a collated report on all the dates.
The comments and ratings, which have been filled in anonymously by previous participants, should help you decide if the course is appropriate for your needs.
Look for the links at the top of the page to return to the course list or to the previous page.
Booking a Course
D1: How do I find the booking link?
At the bottom of each booking page there is a Book Course Online link. There may be more than one if the course is running more than once. Check the dates and make sure you click the correct link.
D2: How do I apply for the course?
Once you click the Book Course Online link, you are asked to fill in the short application form. The information you provide in terms of your requirements and expectations for the course will be very useful for the Course Organiser and will also help your CPD Co-ordinator to make an approval decision.
When you have filled in the form, click Submit Application.
The Thank You message confirms that your application has been automatically sent to your CPD Co-ordinator who will advise you by email when your request has been approved or declined.
If the course is already full by the time you are approved, you will be put on the waiting list.
D3: How do I know if I am on a course?
You will receive an email from your CPD Co-ordinator. You can also check online at any time by logging into the Online CPD System and looking at your My Requested Courses area, see next page for details. In the Approval Status column, it will say “Approved” if you have a place on the course.
You do NOT have a place on the course until your application has been approved by your CPD Co-ordinator. If you have not received a confirmation email, and your My Requested Courses list still says your application is “Pending”, then you are NOT on the list of approved applicants and you do not yet have a place on the course. You should contact your CPD Co-ordinatorto let them know if there is a problem.
Checking and Changing Your Details
You must be logged in to see your user details. Logging in allows you to see your user details menu options on the right hand side.
E1: How do I see which courses I have applied for?
Click My Requested Courses.
You can see whether your courses have been approved yet, cancel your request, see a delegate list, etc.
If your course has had to be cancelled, this will also be shown.
View Course Details / Cancel a course / View a delegate list“Pending” courses
If you see “Pending” in the Approval Status column, this means that your CPD Co-ordinator has not yet approved your request. You may wish to remind them if this persists – remember that you do NOT have a guaranteed place on a course unless your application has been approved. You will be informed by email of your CPD Co-ordinator’s decisions and the “Pending” status will change to “Approved” or “Declined”.
“Approved” courses
If the Approval Status column says “Approved”, you have a place on the course and can view a delegate list to show you the names of the other course participants.
Youshould also receive email confirmation of your place on the course from the Course Administrator as the course time approaches.
Cancelling courses
You can cancel a course, including a “Pending” course, at any time using the Cancel icon. If you know you can no longer attend, cancelling a course this way allows another participant to take your place. It also means that you will not be charged for the course.
E2: How do I keep a record of the courses I have attended?
Click My Past Courses.
You can see the course details and delegate register for past courses here. You can also complete your feedback questionnaire and view your completed questionnaires.
Submit your feedback / View your completed questionnaireThe feedback questionnaire is a short user-friendly form which, when submitted, delivers your anonymous feedback to the Course Organisers and Tutors, who can then use your input to help shapefuture training opportunities. Your anonymous feedback is also shared with future course participants to help them decide if the course is going to be suitable for them.
E3: How can I get information about new courses?
Click My Email Alerts.
You can arrange to be notified by email when new courses are added to the system by ticking all the course categories you are interested in from the lists.
Then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page
You can return to this page at any time to change the Email Alerts you want, saving the changes each time.
You can use the Clear All link at the top of the page to remove all the ticks.
E4: How can I change my user details?
Click Change My Details
This area will already have your details in it, but you can make changes yourself, for example if you would like emails to go to a different home address (including a home address), or if you have changed job or base. You can add more than one base (if you work in two different bases) by clicking the green plus sign.
You must click Save Changes or any change you made will not take effect.
It is important that you keep this area up-to-date as the information stored here is linked to the application and approval process.
E5: How can I change my password?
Click Change My Password.
Enter your Current Password carefully, then type in your new password (making sure Caps Lock isn’t on) and repeat it in the third box.
You must click Save Changes or any change you make will not take effect.
New passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include at least one non-alphabetical character. Remember to use this new password next time you log in!
Forgotten your password? Appendix 2 explains what to do if this is the case.

Example User Registration email
Look out for an email from HR Director Support Team
with the Subject HRDirector CPD - User Registration
The email will look like this:
Important notes:
- Keep these details safe! You need them to log in to the Online CPD system so that you can book your CPD courses online
- The username and password are case sensitive. Make sure you use capital letters and lowercase letters exactly as in the email
- Don’t worry about having to remember a complicated password – you will be able to change it once you have logged in
- Confirmations of course bookings are sent to you by email. If this is not the email address that you use regularly, you should change your email address once you are logged in.
If you have problems (for example if you have not received your registration email) you should inform your school/base CPD Co-ordinator.
Appendix 2: Forgotten your password or username
and cannot book CPD courses online?
It is easy to get back on to the system, so long as you still have the same email address that you used to sign up to the system.
First find the Online CPD website
The SBC Online CPD Management system now has an easy-to-remember direct link:
This link will take you directly to the old address, which you should add to your bookmarks.
Alternatively, you can access the system through the Scottish Borders Council website:
- Go to
- Click the A-Z Directory link
- Click the Education and Lifelong Learning link
- Click the CPD Management System link
Next tell the system that you have forgotten your details
Look for the Forgotten Password link in the right hand side.
Fill in at least one of the boxes. You need to know either your username, your original email address, or your personnel number.
Then click ‘Submit Details’.
Appendix 2: Continued
Follow the email instructions to confirm that you need a new password
What happens next is that an email is sent to your email address containing a confirmation code. (This is to prevent somebody else requesting to change your password without you knowing).
Click the link in the email to be taken to the correct web page. Here you are asked to type in your confirmation code and click ‘Reset Password’.
Receive your new login details by email
When you click Reset Password, the system will generate another email to you containing your username and new password.
Finally use your new login details to access the CPD system
You can now get into the system again and start booking courses.
Don’t forget that you can change your password to something more memorable, so long as it is at least 8 characters long and contains at least 1 non-alphabetic character (eg a number).
Click ‘Change Password’ and carefully fill in the current password, new password, and repeat new password. Then click ‘Save Changes’.
Lost your login details AND changed email address?
Obviously this system of resetting passwords does rely on you being able to check your email to receive your new login details.
If you have changed email addresses, you will be unable to receive your new login details.
In this case you will have to ask your CPD Co-ordinator to contact the CPD Administration team to have your email address changed on the system. Once that is done, you can reset the password as above.
