Anstey Junior School PTA Newsletter

June 2013

Hello all and welcome back to the last part of the school year. Last half term was much quieter for the PTA which I am sure was a relief to you (although not as much as me!). However with your support Year 5 made £80.56 on their cake sale and Year 4 raised £81.45 with theirs.

Also thank you to everyone who sent their children in with money for Father’s Day gift sales – we will let you know how much we made next week – I hope all the Dad’s enjoyed their gifts.

We have been spending money! Last year we raised money to buy a new sound system for the hall – well I am pleased to say it is here and sounding amazing, Year 4 have spent some of their cake sale money on a magazine subscription and Year 5 have spent theirs on both books as well as new playground equipment. Year 6 took a vote and used their money to pay for activities during the residential week. Year 3 have yet to spend their money but we will let you know what they choose. We have paid once again for the year 6 leavers gift and have just bought a new BBQ (ready for the hot weather at the fete!!!). In total last term we donated £2257 to the school so a huge thank you to all those who supported and helped at our events making this possible.

This half term is a little busier and we VERY much need your help again......

Dates for the Diary:

Phil the Bag – Friday June 21st

We had a very successful collection in the winter and so are doing it again! It is a great way of recycling and fund raising at the same time. The bags came home yesterday and you need to bring them back on the morning of Friday 21st. You can fill the bags with all types of unwanted textiles including: All kinds of clothing, Shoes, Bags, Belts, Hats, Curtains, Towels, and Bedding.Items are accepted in any condition and if you have more than one bag full you can use any bin bag or carrier bag. Please ask friends and family as we get paid by the kilo so the more you find the more we make.

Quiz Night – Friday June 21st

Unfortunately we have had to cancel this event due to helpers and time constraints – we are very sorry to any of you that were looking forward to it.

Year 3 After School Cake Sale – Friday June28th

We are holding our next year groups cake sale.As you know the school sponsors a child in India through Each sale will give £25 to this cause with the rest of the money going to the year group who can chose what they want to spend it on. Letters will be coming home to this year group soon.

Summer Holiday Hampers

A HUGE thank you to everyone that sent in something for our summer holiday hampers. Hopefully some of you will have seen the first 5 which are on display by the hall. There are 7 more to come – so thank you for your generousity. We will draw the winners of our hampers at the fete but you can buy tickets anytime before then.

We will be selling them at sports day (18th June), at the year 2 parents evening (25th June), After celebration assembly, and finally after school on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th July. You can also ask at the office or see Mrs Morrish at school. Tickets are 20p.

Non-School Uniform Day – Thursday4th July

As always we will have tombola at the fete and are asking for donations in return for children wearing non-school uniform. Bottles for upper school and chocolate for lower.

Summer Fete – Friday 12th July

As with last year the summer fete will be held between 5:30 and 7:30. There will be a BBQ, a beer tent, cakes and teas, an ice-cream van as well as all the usual stalls and games, face painting and temporary tattoos. The drama group will be performing their short play and the Rock School Group from the college will be playing. We are hoping for a lovely social event that Mums, Dads, Grannies and Granddads can all come to. Hopefully it will coincide with teatime and what could be easier that popping back to the school for a burger? We have to just keep our fingers crossed for good weather!

So a plea for help: Firstly please do come and support the event it would be such a shame for the school if we have a poor turnout. It is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year and a chance for you to socialise and hopefully have some fun.

Secondly this kind of event cannot happen without volunteers. I know how busy you all are but without volunteers it just will not be possible. If a few people give up ½ an hour it would mean that everyone will get a chance to enjoy the festivities. We need people to BBQ, help on teas, cakes, stalls, set up and clear away. There will be a rota in the office so please do contact me or the office if you can help or have any special talents we can make the most of.

Also we would love to have some gazebos for the fete so if you have one that we would be able to borrow please do contact me.

There will be more information about the fete coming soon with a list of stalls and times for performances – but put it in your diary and invite the family – let’s make it a success.

Final Event - End of year discos – Thursday 19th July

(Lower school 5:15-6:30pm; Upper school -6:45-8:00pm)

More details to follow shortly with ticket prices and forms to return, but it is going to have a beach theme (no swimwear though!!!!!)

Also Don’t Forget......

– This is a FREE service where you can shop with your favourite online stores and at no extra cost raise funds for the school. You still shop directly with each retailer as you would normally, but simply by using the links from the site first, each purchase you make will generate a cash back donation to the school, instantly raising money. For example make any purchase from Amazon and 2.5% will be donated. You can shop with 2000+ brand name retailers and to raise funds you just use the links from the site first – it’s that simple!

The website link is simply register and then continue shopping. We have already raised over £30 and that is with just 3 people registered – imagine how much we could raise if more of you joined as well.

Alton Toy Shop – Alton Toy Shop have kindly agreed to help towards our fundraising. When you pay please tell the cashier that you would like to donate to Anstey Junior School and they will donate 10% of the cost of your purchase to the school, but the great thing is it won’t cost you any extra, so all those birthday and Christmas present purchases will help towards the school and support a local business. With your help we have already raised over £200 which we spent on raffle prizes at Easter.

As always if you have any ideas for fundraising, or you have a skill which would be helpful in any of our events, or would just like to help out please do contact me at or through the school office. We ALWAYS need help!
