EARL V. REFFNER

A resident of Menno-Rest Haven, Inc., Duncansville RD, formerly of Woodbury, died unexpectedly at 1:45 p.m. yesterday, March 10, 1976, in Altoona Hospital. Mr. Reffner was a retired railroad employe, having worked in Ohio. He was born March 12, 1889, at New Enterprise RD, a son of George P. and Elizabeth (Ebersole) Reffner, and was twice married, on July 19, 1911, to Rose M. Parson, who died Dec. 23, 1957, and then on July 4, 1959, to Hattie (Miller) Hoover. Surviving are his wife, four stepchildren, Mrs. Elizabeth Burket of Martinsburg, Mrs. Laura Mae Raffensperger of Allentown, Mrs. Genevie Smith of Silver Spring, Md., and Dr. John Hoover of Glenside. Friends will be received in the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

SALLIE O. REFFNER

Of New Enterprise RD 1, died unexpectedly at 6:10 p.m. yesterday, April 30, 1971, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. She was born at Claysburg RD on June 29, 1889, a daughter of J. Quinter and Rebecca (Walter) Bowser, and March 22, 1910, at the home of the Rev. D.T. Detwiler married Wilson Reffner, who preceded her in death. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Elda F. Mock of Roaring Spring RD, Albert W., James M. and Joe W. of New Enterprise RD; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Ada Settlemeyer of New Enterprise. Mrs. Reffner was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren. Friends will be received in the Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and in the Holsinger Church of the Brethren, Bakers Summit, after 1 p.m. Monday.

WILSON REFFNER

Of New Enterprise RD, died in the Hollidaysburg States Hospital at 12:25 a.m. Sunday after an extended illness. He was born at New Enterprise RD Oct. 12, 1884, a son of George P. and Elizabeth (Ebersole) Reffner, and married Sallie Bowser on March 22, 1910. Surviving are his wife, four children, Albert W., James M. and Joe W., all of New Enterprise RD, and Mrs. Elda Fern Mock of Roaring Spring; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, Earl V. of Woodbury. A farmer, he was the South Woodbury Twp. assessor for 16 years and a supervisor for six years. Friends are being received at the Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury

ORPHA SUSAN REFFNER

Wife of David A. Reffner of Salemville died at her home at 11.55 o’clock yesterday morning after a lengthy illness. She was born in New Enterprise July 16, 1880, the daughter of Charles F. and Nancy (Rice) Shriner, and married David A. Reffner Feb. 3, 1903. Surviving are her husband, one son, John, and one step-daughter, Mrs. George Barree, both of Altoona, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Wolf of Salemville, and one brother, John Shriner of Roaring Spring. She was a member of the Seven Day Baptist church of Salemville. Friends will be received at the home of Mrs. Wolf in Salemville after 7 o’clock this evening.

DAVID ALLEN REFFNER

Of 2525 Maple Ave., formerly of Salemville, died at 1.45 a.m. today in Mercy Hospital where he was admitted last Wednesday. He was born in Altoona Feb. 15, 1879, a son of George and Elizabeth (Ebersole) Reffner, and was a retired farmer. Surviving are two children, Mrs. George Barree and John of the city; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Wilson of New Enterprise and Earl of Woodbury. Friends will be received at the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, after 7 p.m. tomorrow.

GEORGE WILLIAM REFFNER

Farmer of Everett, R.D. No. 2, died Sunday night at 10.05 o’clock at his home. He was born in Morrisons cove, Bedford county, on Aug. 13, 1877, a son of George W. and Elizabeth (Eversole) Reffner. He was married twice, first to Hattie Pressel, now deceased, and on Aug. 21, 1908, he married Cora E. Dively. He was of the Lutheran faith. For the past five years Mr. Reffner had been farming the E. Clayton Karns farm. He is survived by two children, Merle E. of Everett, R.D., No. 2, and Mrs. Bruce (Mary) Welleys of St. Clairsville; four brothers, Charles of Dudley, David and Wilson of New Enterprise and Earle of Cleveland, and three grandchildren.

REFFNER--Funeral services for George William Reffner of Everett, R.D. No. 2, will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 2.30 o’clock from the Barley Lutheran church in Morrisons cove, with Rev. E.P. Windman in charge. Interment will follow in [copy cut off here…]

MRS. MALINDA SHRINER

Widow of David Shriner of Martinsburg, died at the Nason hospital in Roaring Spring yesterday morning at 2.05 o’clock, death being attributed to a heart ailment. She was a daughter of George and Elvy Eversole Reffner and was born at Maria, Bedford county, on June 28, 1874. She was united in marriage with David Shriner on June 11, 1895, at Hollidaysburg. Six children were born to this union, one being deceased. Surviving are Mrs. Verle Shirk of Martinsburg, Mrs. Alma Scafford of Washington, D.C., D. Wilman Shriner of Martinsburg, G. Ulcie Shriner of Williamsburg and Mrs. Louella Westley of Tyrone, and eleven grandchildren and five brothers, Charles Reffner of Hopewell, William Reffner of Everett, David and Wilson Reffner of New Enterprise and Earl Reffner of Cleveland, O. She was a member of the Martinsburg Methodist church and the Ladies’ Bible class of the Sunday school. Friends are being received at the home of D. Wilman Shriner in Martinsburg.

SHRINER--Funeral services for Mrs. Malinda Shriner will be conducted in the Martinsburg Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. J.V. Royer. Interment will be made in the Spring Hope cemetery at Martinsburg. Friends are being received at the home of D. Wilman Shriner in Martinsburg.

WELL KNOWN LOCAL MAN PASSES AWAY

David I. Shriner Dies Following Brief Illness

A well known citizen of Martinsburg died at the Nason Hospital at Roaring Spring on Wednesday afternoon at 1:50. He was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday morning.

He was born at Salemville, July 30, 1873, a son of Charles F. and Nancy Rice Shriner. On July 11, 1895 he was united in marriage with Malinda Reffner at Hollidaysburg. Surviving are his wife and the following children: D. Wilmer Shriner of Martinsburg and G. Ulcie Shriner of Claysburg, Alma, wife of Russell Scrafford, at home, Verle E., wife of J.D. Shirk of Martinsburg, R.D., N. Luella, wife of Richard Westley of Tyrone. One son, Darwin, preceded him in death 18 years ago. There are 10 grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Homer Shriner, Martinsburg, R.D., John Shriner, Roaring Spring, R.D.; Minnie, wife of Charles Wolf, and Orpha, wife of David Reffner of Salemville. He was a member of the Methodist church.

The body was taken to the Kenton R. Miller funeral home of Martinsburg to be prepared for burial. The funeral services will be held at the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.
