STLP Showcase Regionals
The showcase regionals for STLP occurred at WKU on December 6, 2012. Six different showcases were interviewed. There were two elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. They were asked different questions such as what their project was, what the purpose of it was, how they got it started, and what kind of technology they used. Here is how they responded.
Elementary Schools
The first school that was interviewed was the TC Cherry Elementary School. Their showcase was called “TC Cherry Happenings”. The purpose of their showcase was to help remind people of the seven happenings at their school, which were very important dates to them. For their project they used an iPad, iPhone, and a PowerPoint. Their board was very colorful, well-decorated, and organized, as well. The second elementary school was McNeill Elementary. “The Leader In Me” was the name of their showcase. What they represented also had to do with a program in their school that they wanted to introduce to more people. The purpose of this is to teach kids how to become leaders. The use of technology included a prezi and a camera.
Middle Schools
Now, moving on to the middle school division of the competition. The first one of them that was interviewed was the Todd County Middle School. The showcase was called “I’ve Got My Memories”. They created a digital yearbook, using a camera and a slideshow. The purpose for this was to make an alternative to the traditional yearbook that lasts longer and that wasn’t as plain as the average yearbook.
Barren County Middle was represented by a group title called SWAG, which stood for Stranger Warning Awareness Group. An actual kidnapping in their community inspired this project. So, they decided to help raise awareness of how dangerous strangers can be and what to do in case of an attempted kidnapping.
High Schools
High schools were also represented at competition. The first project interviewed was Muhlenberg County High School. This project was called “Behind The Scenes: Beyond The Production”. It began by the group going to a concert. They went because all of the money that was taken up was to be donated to charity. At the concert, a man offered them a chance to film behind the scenes. They used a camera and a laptop to produce the finished product. The next project was the Barren County High School. This project was called “The Tiny Trojans”. This group wanted to create a cheer team using technology. They used Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Photocopy, and Photoshop. They wanted to spread the love of cheerleading by doing this as well.
In conclusion, all these schools have great purposes for their showcases. They all put much effort and time into them, too, as well as using a variety of technology devices. Permission was given to publish pictures of each school project group below.
