MPUMALANGA PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE TO HAND OVER A FARM
The Legislature Petitions Programme is yielding positive results to the benefit of the community. This follows a breakthrough relating to two land claims lodged with the Office of the Speaker through the Petitions process.
The first land claim related to Mr Lazarus Mabuza of Sabie Old Location, who had unsuccessfully launched a land claim with the Land Claims Commission since the year 2002. Following the intervention by the Legislature through the Petitions process, the Land Claims Commission has since agreed to reimburse Mr Mabuza.
The second petition relates to Mooimeisie Fontein Farm in Perderkop under Pixley Ka-Isaka Seme Local Municipality. Mr David Masimula, on behalf of the other two families residing in the farm, launched a petition with the Office of the Speaker, following a threat to be removed from the land that they had called home in the 36 years. The challenges began when the farm was sold to new owners.
After having approached various departments for assistance without any success, the Masimula family sought the Legislature’s intervention by launching a petition. The matter has been finalized and 50 hectors of the farm have been allocated back to the legitimate owners.
The official hand-over will take place as follows.

The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land Administration and Environmental Affairs (DARDLAE) has committed to issue the start-up implements including feeders and manure and the testing of the borehole in the farm.
The attendance of the media to witness the handing over of the farm by the Speaker of the Legislature Ms Thandi Shongwe together with the MEC for DARDLEA Mr Andrias Gamede for subsequent media coverage will be highly appreciated.
