VEREDA FIGUEROA FINCA NUEVA VISTA - POPAYAN
I HAVE A SMALL BUSINESS BREEDING AND RAISING CHICKENS AND CHICKS. I AM A DISPLACED PERSON AND I HAVE HAD THE SUPPORT OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR INTEGRATED REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT (ODRI ONG) WITH THE FINANCING OF A LOAN (L-177) FOR THE PRODUCTION OF CHICKS. THE BUSINESS HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL AND I AM ABOUT TO FINISH PAYING OFF THE LOAN. I AM NOW REQUESTING A LOAN TO OPEN A STORE SINCE A TRANSPORTATION COOPERATIVE HAS SET UP A BUS STATION IN THE HOUSE ON THE FARM. THIS IS A VERY GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR ME BECAUSE I CAN PROVIDE THE BUS DRIVERS WITH FOOD
THE EXPERIENCE GAINED PRODUCING CHICKENS, WHICH WERE FOR SALE AT MARKETS AND NEIGHBOR’S HOMES, WILL NOW BE USED FOR PREPARING BREAKFAST, SNACKS AND MEALS ON THE PROPERTY. THIS WILL SAVE ME A LOT OF HARD WORK DELIVERING AND SELLING DOOR TO DOOR.
THE OTHER BIG HELP IS THE TRANSPORTATION COOPERATIVE WHICH, BY ESTABLISHING THE BUS STATION IN OUR HOUSE, HAS GIVEN US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET UP RESTAURANT SERVICE AND A STORE FOR THE COMMUNITY OF LA VEREDA FIGUEROA..

THE COMMUNITY OF FIGUEROA SUGGESTED TO MY HUSBAND LUIS THAT WE OPEN A STORE,SINCE EVERYONE ARRIVES OR DEPARTS FROM THE BUS STATION IN OUR HOUSE.AND WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE CHANCE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO WELL-STOCKED STORES IN LA VEREDA, BUT WE NEED A LARGE STOCK BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY IS LARGE.
WE BUY THE PRODUCTS FROM WHOLESALERS IN POPAYAN, WHO GIVE US SPECIAL DISCOUNTS FOR PURCHASES OVER $500, IN ADDITION TO THE 10 TO 15% WE ADD TO THE PRODUCTS. WE WORK IN THE STORE WITH A GROSS PROFIT OF 20-25%. WITH THE LOAN, OUR INCOME COULD INCREASE BY $135 A MONTH,AND OF THAT WE COULD EASILY PAY $50 A MONTH.

JAIME CAMPO - Trade of Fresh Fish --$525
GALERIA LA ESMERALDAMunicipality of Popayan
I have been displaced from San Sebastian-Cauca for the last five years. Since then, I have been dedicating myself to the trade of fresh fish, “bocachico” and “tilapia” in the galeries of Esmeralda, which is located in the municipality of Bolivar and Bello Horizonte. I have rented stands outside the main distributors.
I have been a merchant my whole life. I have designed furniture to be used for selling coffee on the streets. I have also worked selling fruits and vegetables.
For the last two months, and for the next three months, I have been/will be participating in the tutoring being offered between Odri Ong and the University of Cauca. This is being offered through a consultancy by the Faculty of Economical Sciences, Administration and Accounting. I will take full advantage of this.

Business Plan: The business is working. However, because of the lack of capital it is not working well. I have recently opened two more stalls and now my stalls are drawing more and more customers every day.
By adding the two new stalls in Bolivar and Bello Horizonte I believe that my sales will be increased by 100%. My initial capital will be used for the La Esmeralda sales stall , at which my annual revenues amounts to US $110,00.
My associated costs are really minimal, given that at the booths there are no rental payments and the energy costs are being covered by the major distibutor. I am doing the transportation from the distributor to the street. Tranportation costs are limited to the transportation from my house and back to the three sales stalls.
In the mornings I defrost the fish, clean them, wash them, and cool them for the clients. During the first month I believe that I can double the sales and in the months 4, 7 and 10 I would be reinvesting the revenues to increase the sales.
The repayment of the loan will be done in 18 monthly installments. With the revenues of the project I should be able to make the monthly payments.
- PAULINO RIVERA MONCAYO -- Production and Sale of Decorative/Ornamental Plants $525 - to be repaid in 18 months.. Carrrera 6, Lot #48, N.156- District: Vega de Prieto- Municipality of Popayan
Paulino has experience in the planting of ornamental plants and in the manufacture of organic fertilizar. Additionally his clients lend out the gardening service and planting of seedlings. He works with his wife and from this business they live with their small 3 year old daughter. He needs credit for the enlargement of stock in the nursery.
Paulino Rivera is an industrious farmworker; He has worked all his life in grape vineyards, on country estates in various municipalities of Cauca. Now because of the necessity of educating his daughter, he has established his family in the city of Popayán. He previously had a job as a laborer where he learned and gained his technical expertise.
Paulino’s economic condition hasn’t allowed him to have connections that might support him; he has requested financial support from different institutions but he finds himself limited because of not fulfilling the requirements demanded. For now his only support has been ODRI ONG. Fortunately, ODRI also offers training.

The nursery is doing well the past two years, when in one lot of practically abandoned land, Paulino suggested to its owner to let him develop it in exchange for tending it and keeping it cleaned out/pruned.
Initially he generated organic obo, turning over manure, wood shavings, eggshells and organic waste. Subsequently, he was reproducing seedlings for the garden and from there orders increasing more each day, for fruit trees, bouganvillas, orchids
The root/mother plants are brought from Santander de Quilichao, Cauca, and are reproduced in the nursery and fixed for sale. For this job the added value manages to be 100% the capacity of the sale is in rise in growth value, given that the sector of the city where the nursery is, is in expansion, with new housing neighborhoods and the modern ones are roomy green areas, that has resulted in a high demand.
The associated costs correspond to the purchase of land, organic manures, greenhouses, and some fertilizers. They manage to compose 50% of the total costs, the remainder is between 20% utility, and the workforce 30%. With the loan from the Colombia Project program the profit would increase to 30-35% equivalent to $800 per month with or that payment of the monthly credit installment permitted.

This is an established business, with an institutional demand for snacks of 280 monthly units, at a cost of $1.08 We need an additional investment to strengthen it and to expand its marketing to other types of customers.
With this investment,we project monthly sales of 200 additional snacks at the same sales price, valued at US$518. With ongoing demand for months 1 thru 4 until months 7 and 10 we figure a 10% increase of its production due to year end sales.
The projections show optimum income levels to cover production costs, financial obligations, labor, and capital for reinvestment and expansion.
