- the group decided to meet as a larger group every other month, with sub-committees meeting more regularly
- Cori will reserve space and send out meeting reminders for the remaining meetings
3. Updates
- Building/Construction-Tom Mayo
· Shared handout with committee
· South Access Road-to connect SoVi with BHG Parkway-Corps permitting in progress
· Student Academic Health and Life Fitness Center-design in progress
· Recreation fields at eastern core-construction complete. Sod grows until 11/1
· Alico Arena addition and partial remodel -Phase 1 starts 11/2016 and complete 7/2017
· WGCU Broadcast tower-replace existing broadcast tower in Charlotte Co. Schedule TBD
· North Lake Village dining facility-design in progress -Construction 11/16-7/17
· AB 9-appropriation for planning and design. Design consultant selection in progress
· Dunkin Donuts addition and LINK remodel-Chartwells funded and managed. Construction complete 10/16
· Holmes Hall canopy-exterior roofed instructional are to support the pending Construction management program
· EPA NPDES Permit-National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
· Concerns were raised that all the additions and construction could affect accessible parking spaces
· Cori stated the ADA Committee will do walk-throughs of all new construction
· Tom Mayo prefers to have ADA review drawings of any construction before construction is done due to expenses of making changes after the fact
· Cori suggested that the ADA Committee meet as a group to review any design plans
- OIEC-Brandon Washington
· OIEC will be sending out on-line training to faculty and staff with a disability component
· Students will eventually be sent a training as well
· Discussed the new Diversity and Inclusion Certification Program that will have trainings, programs and events for faculty and staff
- Adaptive Services-Cori Bright-Kerrigan
· Over 900 students registered with OAS
· Still in the process of hiring a new Case Manager
· Discussed Eagles Gather, the student group focusing on disability awareness
· Continuing to conduct training sessions
· Will present on October 19th for the Certificate Program through OIEC
4. Old Business
- Campus Accessibility survey -Cori
· Survey was done to see the state of our campus in terms of accessibility
· Good response rate
· Need to have a subcommittee to review the data
· Brandon Washington, Tom Mayo and Holly Fitch agreed to be on the subcommittee which will meet every other month in between ADA Committee meetings
- Adaptive Sports Clinic
· The purpose of the sports clinic is to promote Disability awareness and sensitivity
· October is Disability Awareness month
· Adaptive Services and Campus Rec worked together to develop this clinic
· Date and time will be October 22, 2015 from 11 am to 3 pm
· There will be waterskiing, kayaking, wheelchair tennis, blindfold yoga, as well as various vendors from community agencies
· This is also promoted as a Service Learning opportunity through the Service Learning office
· Cori encouraged the ADA Advisory Committee members to come out and support the clinic
5. New Business
- Accessible Technology Initiative
· AET purchased Kaltura-a program that will allow professors to caption videos
· Having accessible technology is an ongoing issue with the faculty in the area of purchasing accessible software
- Website-Jeff
o The website is getting a complete redesign
o The rollout will be Summer 2017
o 10,000 pdfs on the current website needing to be converted
o The new accommodation link, Faciliti, supports varying disabilities and the viewer can change the preferred display to meet their specific need
o A tech team will be convened to change and establish thresholds and standards for programming.
o Planning for 2018 when the laws in regards to accessibility become more stringent
- Software purchases
o There needs to be a subcommittee to oversee the accessible technology initiative
o Will focus on creating a checklist that makes sure all future software that is purchased is accessible
o Will focus on creating communication measures and training initiatives on ensuring accessible technology
o Jeff Garner, Michael Fauerbach, Amelia Cepeda and Diane Odeh volunteered to be on the subcommittee
- Other forms of technology
- Will focus on closed captioning, software and website for now and move to other areas as needed
