POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the management/operations of the Santa Maria facility during his/her assigned shift. Coordinates departmental activities with other managers and supervisors to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility. Ensures production meets budget, scheduling, and quality standards. Supervises direct reports of lead persons, production workers, maintenance, and warehouse employees on his/her assigned shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Coordinates the activities of the production, warehouse, and quality control personnel on his/her assigned shift.
  2. Monitors production lines and work areas. Visually inspects work areas and production equipment. Ensures equipment works efficiently and safely.
  3. Directs, assigns work to, corrects, disciplines, trains, and evaluates personnel.
  4. Authorizes temporary changes in job duties and corresponding wage rates as necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.
  5. Directs daily production schedule as assigned by the Production Manager or Production Superintendent.
  6. Monitors and evaluates production performance to ensure performance standards, product quality, product safety, and safe working conditions are met. Adjusts product, manpower, and equipment resources as needed to ensure these issues are met.
  7. Identifies problems and develops appropriate solutions.
  8. Control cost and operates within budget parameters.
  9. Communicates frequently with plant management regarding production, product quality, product safety, and personnel safety.
  10. Maintains positive employee relations within the departments.
  11. Train, follow, and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  12. Ensures a safe working environment.
  13. Follows all Company policies and procedures, which include SOPs, Employee Handbook, Food Quality Policies, GMP Handbook, HACCP, and Pictsweet Safety Procedures.
  14. Enforces company rules, such as attendance, food safety, production quality, safety, GMPs, and efficiency. Disciplines subordinates when non-compliance occurs.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Production Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: Must have a practical understanding of food production principles, quality control, HACCP, GMP, and personnel management. This is normally gained in at least two years of food production experience.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Five years of appropriate experience may be substituted for formal education. Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess an understanding of management/leadership fundamentals. Must have basic mathematical reasoning ability and a basic understanding of statistics.

SPECIAL SKILLS:Must possess excellent communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Must be able to process large volumes of information, make decisions under pressure, and provide leadership in difficult situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is expected to be able to work in all plant environments including occasional short term exposure to refrigerated atmospheres.
