Meeting opened at 1219 hours, after everyone had sat down with a plate from Iron Gate Grill. Kevin Christensen asked for approval of the minutes from last month’s meeting, which was motioned by Rich VanDyke and 2nd by Burke Nelson.
Randy Wilde’s wife and family were in attendance and Kevin asked all the members to introduce themselves, and at the same time, mention any new LEPC business. Laron Woods introduced Steven Keene, as his replacement for ARES. Kevin Christensen introduced Josh Greer as the County’s new HazMat Responder. Working with Josh will be Claine Shakespear, who is an environmental health scientist.
Kevin thanked Dorene and the committee who made all the arrangements for today’s lunch, along with the plaques and LEPC shirts. Kevin said he appreciates all of the LEPC members and emergency responders, who take the time to make it to the meetings. Kevin presented an appreciation plaque to Laron Woods, who attended the meetings for Amateur Radio Emergency Services, and a plaque to Terry Grover from Lincoln Environmental, who also helped out on the Road Planning Committee. Thank you Terry for the recorder. We will miss both of you.
Holly Wilde introduced herself, her four daughters, her parents, and Randy’s siblings, and thanked the LEPC for inviting them to today’s meeting. Dorene presented Holly with some flowers and described the river rock that is being engraved, with a quotation, in Randy’s honor. When the rock is done, it will be delivered to Holly and the girls.
Kevin had a few words to say about Randy:
Randy Wilde was instrumental in bringing hazardous material response to Box Elder
County, and starting regular LEPC meetings, in which he held the positions of Chair and Co-Chair numerous times over the years. Randy addressed the need for a Box Elder County HazMat Team, helped put a team together, worked with the Commissioners on funding for the team, and stayed on top of the continuing training and exercises for its members. Randy responded any time of the day or night to test meth houses when the Strike Force served warrants, or to the numerous hazmat spills in our County over the years. Randy was reliable, knowledgeable, trustworthy, always willing to help, and whenever you saw him, he always had a smile on his face. In Kevin Christensen’s words… “the memorial stone that will be presented to Holly is a reminder of Randy’s solid endearing love for his family, his firm commitment to the church, his unyielding drive to do things right, and his sturdiness as he helped many of us grow into our jobs. He will live on in our memories.”
