Position title: Bilingual (French/English) Health and Safety Manager
Location: To be determined
Position Status: Full Time (5 days/wk)
Hours of Work: 8:00 am-5:00 pm (M-F)
Reports to: General Manager, GCR Tire Centres
This position is responsible to direct and coordinate all safety, health and environmental related activities for the business; to prevent occupational injury/illness related losses and minimize future liabilities by evaluating risks and establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities; to promote and support GCR’s line-driven safety process; and to assist management in achieving their safety and business objectives.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Develop & implement a comprehensive safety management system. Includes providing leadership and support for the line driven safety process, behavior based safety, ergonomics, fire prevention, security, industrial hygiene and workers compensation.
2. Direct WC claims process through aggressive management of all claims including directing medical practitioners and insurance personnel and in partnership with HR,
negotiating settlements.
3. Manage the industrial hygiene program.
4. Provide guidance on regulatory and legislative matters and oversee government compliance inspections and activities. Develop written programs to ensure compliance.
5. Establish and manage fire prevention programs including routine inspections and testing, issue hot work permits, and be the Company liaison with property insurance carrier and local fire authorities.
6. Establish and manage the security program including coordinating security with local police during labor disputes, emergencies and other disruptions.
7. Establish and manage a medical surveillance program.
8. Position will require the incumbent to keep abreast of all applicable health, safety and environmental legislation across Canada due to the number of provinces in which the Company has locations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety from accredited institution; Certified safety professional designation
· Minimum 4 - 6 yrs. experience in occupational health & safety.
· Must be fluently bilingual in French/English.
· Must be willing to travel 75-80% of the time to store locations.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision-making, negotiation and assessment skills
· Ability to work independently and co-operatively in a busy multi-disciplinary environment
