The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) is the worldwide umbrella organisation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus organisations. Today IF represents more than 45 countries and has contact with regional and national organisations in over 50 countries, spread over five continents.

Communications Officer

Deadline for applications: 1 March 2013, start of the employment: asap

Under the overall supervision of the Secretary General and in collaboration with the Information Officer and the other IF staff, the Communications Officer will develop and plan the communications strategy of IF. In particular:

· Design and implement the communications strategy together with the other IF staff and volunteers.

· Identify activities and events that may be of interest to IF and its members.

· Create an international visibility for the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and its members

· Monitor the effect of IF dissemination and contribute to IF’s visibility with European and International Institutions and their members.

· Communicate through the website and social media. This includes the writing of new materials, ensuring quality in published material, revising translations and preparing various support materials.

· Assist in the production of IF documents such as position papers for European institutions, articles …

· Process, design and disseminate documents to IF members and partners.

· Et cetera…

You have:

· A good overall level of education, preferably a degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related fields.

· At least three years experience in communications, public relations, web‐based communication, journalism or related fields.

· Previous work experience with EU Institutions, with nonprofit organizations, associations working in the social, health or related fields is a plus.

· Proficient knowledge of English and at least one other language

· Proactive, efficient and motivated person, able to work independently. Interested in the field. Committed to the voluntary sector

· Good IT skills

· A high level of initiative and a proven ability to work independently, responsibly and without close supervision

· An understanding of disability and a good awareness of diversity issues
