SACRED HEART PARISH COUNCIL
MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 8, 2015
Opening Prayer was offered by Father Tom.
Father Tom stated that the Parish Council was being opened up to all that want to participate in order to foster new relationships and to have greater participation on projects instead of the same people being relied upon all of the time.
Review & Acceptance of any old minutes- Thiswas a very short discussion as the Secretary’s lap top computer was called to heaven along with past copies of the minutes, and the fact that the council never met in the spring of last year.
Pick/Discuss Officers and Secretary - Jim stated that Anna has class conflicts on Tuesday evenings, so a discussion was held to determine if the meeting night could be moved to another night of the week. It looked like Thursday might be promising, but too many people had conflicts as the staff calendar for the year is already well mapped out. The decision was made to remain with the current Tuesday meeting nights.
President nominations were presented –
Jim Dickerson was nominated and seconded but declined the position.
David Proffett was nominated and seconded
Julie Delkamiller was nominated and seconded
Charlie Duckwort was nominated but we declined for him as he was not present
A paper ballot vote was taken and Julie Delkamiller was elected President.
Vice President and Secretary were elected from a voice vote:
Jim Dickerson was nominated and seconded and was duly elected
Greg Toohey was nominated for Secretary and was seconded. Due to a lack of competition he was elected again.
Staff Reports
Joyce:
RCIA has filled up quickly. There are 17 participants as of today. This is the 3rd largest group ever and is comprised of a variety of ages. Joyce attributes a lot of the interest to Pope Francis. RCIA is starting next Sunday and Joyce is looking for 2 volunteers for child care. Meg Endlein volunteered to assist.
Easter is in March (the 27th) this year and that is the reason that RCIA has had an early start up.
Parish Picture Directory – This is the first time in 5 years that a new directory will be published. Life Touch is the name of the company producing the directory and they pay Sacred Heart for each photo taken. They are the same people that do many of the school student photos. Volunteers are needed to cover greeting parishioners as they arrive for the appointment times they have selected on the sign-up sheets that have been in the back of the church each week. September volunteers are covered but people are still needed for the October 13, 14, & 15 dates that will take place in the Parish Center. The photos on Sunday, October 11th will be taken in the church from 12:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. The hours for the 13th, 14th & 15th will be from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. This will be a good opportunity for volunteers to meet families in the parish. An attempt is being made to get the photographers to add another Sunday on to the schedule. The company will place appointment confirmation calls to those who have signed up.
Generations of Faith Night – the date is set for October 15th and will start with a pot luck at 5:00 in the gym. The theme is Year of Mercy to coincide with the Popes chosen theme for the coming year.
Dates to remember:
11/14 – All Souls Day Memorial Mass at 5:00 P.M.
12/2 – Parish Reconciliation Service for Advent at 6:30 P.M.
11/30 – Father Tom’s Christmas party at 6:00 P.M.
Sue:
Religious Education classes start on 9/20. The Catechists in service breakfast is this coming Sunday. There are 3 new families involved.
09/27 – will be the Pope Day Celebration for family day. Appropriately titled “Pope, Pastor & Pastries” following Fr. Tom’s visit to the White House and the Pope’s congressional address on September 24th. AkSarBen Cinema will be broadcasting the address.
A new Saint is being canonized in Washington D.C. while the Pope is there.
Confirmation date for 2016 is March 6th at Holy Name probably at 2:00 P.M.
Parish Soft Software is becoming easier to use.
On October 18th there will be a session held for anyone that is going through the grieving process.
Tim:
Young adults held a meet & greet and Mass in the grotto with Fr. Tom.
Letters were written to former Youth Group members. Activities include care packages for service members of parish member, & volunteering at Sienna Francis House.
Tim also mentioned The Empty Bowl Project that is held at Creighton University (Lied Center??). Pick out a hand-made bowl of your choice and it will be filled with soup. Participants keep the bowl and all of the proceeds go to Sienna Francis House. It is being held the evening of 12/9 and during the lunch hour on 12/10. The cost is $10.00 per person. More details to follow.
Vala’s Pumpkin Patch – date is Wednesday 10/21 with a rain date of Thursday, 10/22. It is at the same camp site that we have had in the past. Food set up is at 5:00 P.M., but people can come and go throughout the day.
Inquiries have been made about starting a boy scout troop for SHS students as well as young parish members. A presentation may be forthcoming to the parish council.
Heart Ministry Center – Jim Clements is transitioning well as the new director.
Sacred Heart School – Mike Jensen is also transitioning well as the school Principal.
Father Tom:
He is excited about this year and what lies ahead.
There were 893 in attendance at Holy Smokes, and it was a very profitable event.
In February Fr. Tom was invited to attend the National Prayer Breakfast by Brad Ashford but was unable to attend due to illness. He was then invited to the White House reception for Pope Francis and the subsequent address to Congress. Travel plans have been made and he is somewhat enthusiastic about the events to come.
Chris Kilroy is on the finance committee and he volunteered (not) to speak to the congregation after masses about the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign this year. Requests will be coming shortly in the mail to all registered parishioners.
Fr. Dave met the Sacred Heart Staff the Thursday of Holy Smokes. The transition date is still 7/1 for his arrival at Sacred Heart.
October 5th is the date for the CUES golf Tournament held at The Players Club. Every year the weather has been good, hoping for the same this year. 100 golfers has been the goal for participation at this event.
October 27th Fr. Tom will be going to the Holy Land. A private family foundation is sponsoring this trip. Their goal is to send 20 priests a year that have never had the opportunity to go. 2 tour guides will accompany the group.
Fr. Tom also stated that it is his goal that the parish do a mission.

Parish Winter Party – Discussions were held. Dates discussed were 1/22 or 1/23 and 2/6 due to some scheduling conflicts. Availability of the Stock Yards facility needs to be confirmed before moving forward.
Theme ideas included Circus theme (Sheila this would be a breeze for you), Super Hero, Villans, etc.
No decision was reached.
Closing prayer was offered by Joyce.
