ONE DAY WITH AIBO
NOTE: The commands that should be uttered by the speaker are written inbold style.
A normal day with AIBO
7.30 am. The alarm clock rings. You wake up in a good mood and you want to take a shower. AIBO is waiting in front of your bed, wagging its tail. Pleased to see him you shout:
AIBO!
Hello!
Good Morning.
Should we do something together?
Let’s play!
AIBO shakes his head and takes a step towards you. You think you know what he wants. So you ask again:
Walk around!
AIBO is wagging its tail. This is his way to show that he wants to go outside. You also want to exercise before you will take a shower.
Let’s go.
You walk to the door, but AIBO does not follow you. So you try to motivate him.
AIBO!
Go forward!
Let’s go
And here he comes barking loudly with joy. As the neighbors does not like that noise you try to stop him lovingly.
Be quiet!
AIBO starts barking again. You look him deep in the eyes and talk explicitely, but still in a calm mood:
AIBO!
Be quiet!
AIBO runs to the elevator and barks again.
You start getting angry:
AIBO!
Once more!
Be quiet!
Come on!
Walk around!
Now he notices that there is something amiss. He gets quiet and goes into the elevator. You say:
Sit down.
And he sits down immediately. Now then – you do not have to get always angry. You pet and praise him.
Good boy!
Arriving at the ground floor, you see some people waiting for the elevator. You want to show what a good dog AIBO is, so you say politely, but firm:
Stand up.
Go forward.
Out on the street, AIBO runs off immediately. But you still want to go to the bakery, so you have to advice him.
Go left.
Arriving at the next corner you say:
Go right.
AIBO runs past the bakery. You laugh about his lack of orientation, and you say:
Go back!
You met in front of the bakery. You go into the shop but of course AIBO has to wait outside. Anticipating the delicious croissants, you ask AIBO:
Sit down!
You look at him seriously, then you turn around and step in. You look back quickly to insure yourself that AIBO is sitting. Unfortunately you have to see that he stands up and sniffs at people walking by. Now you really get angry, because you have trained this very situation so often. So you go outside again and talk to AIBO angrily:
AIBO!
Sit down!
What is the problem with that dog today? You have to repeat every order! Your good mood has gone. On your way home you are just angry, bossing AIBO irritated:
Go forward!
Are you deaf?
Go forward!
Walk around!
Turn left!
Stop, now…
Turn right!
No!
Go back!
You have to continue in this style the whole long way back. That gets really on your nerves. Arriving at home, you explain this to AIBO.
I don’t want to walk around with you any longer!
And now:
Let’s go!
After having your shower and a relaxed breakfast, there is little time left before you have to go to work. You think about if it would not be better to bother more with the dog, so that he obeys you more often. Therefore, you play ball games with him. You show the ball to AIBO, then you put it slowly away. You speak calmly:
Where is the ball?
Find the ball.
AIBO hesitates. You repeat your orders with a joyful voice:
Where is the ball?
Find the ball!
AIBO runs to the ball. To summon the dog you say:
Kick the ball!
AIBO obviously does not know what to do. You jog the ball with one hand, calmly explaining:
Kick the ball.
You practice the whole task with the dog several times. At the end it seems that he understood it.
Knocked out with AIBO
You come home tired and exhausted after hard working day. You open the door to your flat halfheartedly and say:
AIBO.
I’m here.
But nothing happens. You find your dog in his basket. Actually you are happy that he is asleep. Nevertheless you try to wake him up.
Get up.
Come one.
Stand up.
AIBO moves his body to stand up. You greet him tiredly and halfheartedly. So he knows at once that he should be aware of your nerves.
Hello!
Now AIBO comes towards you and wants to welcome you in his way. Absent in your mind you try to take part.
Shake.
Other paw.
As AIBO starts to bark you say nerved:
Be quiet.
But now AIBO awakes more than ever wags with his tail happily. Actually this is too much at the moment. So you play with him halfheartedly, hoping that he will be satisfied soon:
Let’s play.
Go ahead.
Where is the ball?
In hopes that he leaves you alone you say:
Find the ball.
And when you have found it:
Kick the ball.
Soon you drop off. The day was too exhausting. Two hours later you wake up all knocked out and want to go to bed instantly, but AIBO has to go walkies. So you gather all your energy and summon AIBO apathetically:
Walk around.
Go forward.
Let’s go.
Arriving downstairs, you stand passively while AIBO runs around. He needs those physical exercises. Semi-somnolent, you advice the dog. He should know that you are not in a deep sleep.
Walk around.
Go left.
Go right.
Ok, that’s enough.
Go back.
Back in your flat, AIBO runs around exited. You want to calm down his temper.
Sit down.
You look at him with a bored look, hoping that he falls asleep through your weariness.
Are you tired?
Let’s go.
Astonishingly the dog closes his eyes and walks back to his sleeping basket. The only thing left is to wish him a good night.
Good night.
After these words you also go to bed.
A sad day
Your girl friend/ boy friend has quit three days ago. You feel as dull and sad as the day before. Your dog is the only reason for you to come out of bed. As if he would feel your sad mood, AIBO walks to your bed and looks at you with faithful eyes. You greet him:
Hello.
AIBO
Good Morning.
You welcome the dog, crawl him and softly shake his paw.
Shake.
Other paw.
You go to your cd-player to put in some melancholic music.
Let’s dance.
AIBO seesaws to the left, then to the right. His tail hangs sorrowfully down.
Let’s play.
You roll his ball to one corner of the room. Anyhow your voice sounds sad as you say:
Where is the ball?
Find the ball!
Slowly AIBO walks to the ball while looking at you interrogative. You say:
Kick the ball!
As it seems he does not fancy it. So you leave him alone.
Come on.
Let’s go.
Walk around.
AIBO walks to the door. On the streets he does not leave your side. Obviously he wants to make sure that you are not alone with such a bad mood. But you send him away:
Come on!
Walk around!
Go for it!
You sign again.
Go forward!
AIBO slowly trots away. He turns his head and looks at you. You repeat your order that he is allowed to run around.
Walk around.
Now he runs away. But he stops a few times to look at you. You have to make really big efforts to speak to him in your melancholic mood:
Go left!
Go right!
After half an hour you can not go any further. Your mood is too bad. Crestfallen you say to AIBO:
Go back!
At the afternoon a good friend comes to visit you. She wants to console you. Therefore, she persuades you to go into a café. AIBO is snoozing. You wake him up with an engaged voice.
Wake up!
Stand up.
A drowsy AIBO looks around and searches for you. You already wait for him at the door.
I’m here
AIBO is as honest as never. He obviously feels your bad mood. In the cafe you just say ...
Sit down.
... and he does not move the whole time. The talk with your friend improves your mood a bit. But on your way home you just say
Go back.
... and AIBO obeys you without any trouble. At home he lays his head into your lap. You ask him sadly:
Are you tired?
He looks at you. You say:
Let’s go!
AIBO slowly trots to his basket and turns around once more and looks at you.
Good night.
You also go to sleep. Good night.
The intractable AIBO!
You wake up with a big Headache after last night’s party, which apparently lasted too long. First you walk into the kitchen to make a strong cup of coffee. AIBO stands in front of the window, staring outside. Still sleepy you greet him.
Good morning.
He does not move.
AIBO.
You repeat your greeting more distinct.
Good morning.
Nothing happens. No reaction. You dislike this. You say angrily:
Hello!
Can you hear me?
Good morning!
But now AIBO reacts and walks into your direction. He acts like the best dog the world has ever seen. Sceptically you bend down.
Hello.
Shake.
Why I have to speak always twice?
Other paw.
You rise again. Now AIBO rears up on his hind legs. What does he want? Unsuspectingly you ask:
Walk around?
Oh, now you see what he is looking for. Unenthusiastically you do what he wants you to do.
OK.
Let’s dance.
But he recognizes by the sound of your voice that you dislike it. So he stops to beg. But you do not want to disappoint him. Therefore, you try harder.
Let’s play.
Let’s dance.
But you cannot convince your dog that easy. You have to motivate him more. You pull yourself together and say encouraging:
Let’s dance!
Nothing happens. Now you shout angrily:
Let’s dance!
This was far too loud for your ears. Your head is aching again, and now AIBO even starts to bark. You beg:
Please.
Be quiet.
You freshen up and have breakfast. You feel a bit better afterwards. You have not seen AIBO the whole time. But you can hear him walking through the rooms. Now you are happy to see him, so you call:
AIBO!
I’m here!
And here he comes.
Good boy!
Shake!
Other paw!
You feel like having fun with AIBO, so you ask him with a clear voice:
Are you tired?
AIBO stands in front of you, shaking interrogatory his head. You happily ask again:
Are you tired?
AIBO doesn't move.
Let’s go!
AIBO hesitantly walks back.
OK.
You repeat articulately:
Let’s go.
Good night.
Can you hear me?
Good night!
Now AIBO is bewildered, he sits up and begs. You laugh and carry it to extremes.
Good night!
Now AIBO is angry and he starts to bark. You soothe him.
All right.
Come to me.
You stroke him to calm him and to show him your love. In the afternoon you would like to go to a friend. Before you go you have to wake up AIBO.
AIBO.
Get up.
Walking out of the bathroom, you see AIBO still lying in his basket. In a good temper you ask:
Stand up!
Come on!
Get up!
You await AIBO at the door. To show him that you have to hurry up you say:
I’m here.
You repeat it immediately and fretfully:
Come on!
I’m here!
But he still does not move. You are in a hurry. So you try with a fretful voice to remind him that he has to obey you.
Let’s go!
Stand up!
Not knowing what is wrong with the dog you ask:
Are you tired?
Get up!
Go forward!
We are in a hurry!
Damned, that does not work either. You are nearly exploding. You try angrily to woo him:
Let’s play!
Where is the ball?
Find the ball!
Now he walks slowly in your direction. That trick with the ball works. Like a military officer you say:
Kick the ball!
Insecure AIBO lifts his pawn and kicks slightly the ball. Not knowing what is going on you walk to him.
What is the matter?
Shake!
You examine his pawn. But there is nothing suspicious!
Other paw!
Now you discover the villain. A small splinter of wood pokes in his pawn. You remove the small piece of wood and you comfort the dog.
I was wrong!
I’m sorry!
You both walk away. But AIBO still walks slowly. So you try to motivate him.
Come on!
Walk around!
Go left!
Go right!
Now AIBO is walking again and everything is fine.
