This is the last meeting of the school year and we wanted to make it special to say Thank You for your help.
During lunch Mandy Johnson talked to the members about enrollment for the fall. We have 267 as of today which includes 190 dual enrollment and 77 in the high school programs. Our first annual CCI Camp will be next week, June 15-17. We have 38 kids registered which is a good size for our first endeavor. CCI Orientation will be held July 26 and 27.
The group moved to the meeting room. Nora will provide copies of the agenda and minutes again for each meeting.
The meeting was called to order by Kali Boatright.
Mr. Carter thanked Craig with Southeast Cooler for providing the lunch and Nora for making it special. (NOTE: We only spent $4.40 more than the usual amount for the meal. The flowers, tablecloths, paper goods, etc. were provided by Nora).
Minutes approved as presented.
CEO School Status Report / Mr. Carter talked about WGTC Graduation. We had 181 students to receive certificates. The graduation lasted 48 minutes from start to finish and went very well. He was impressed by the students and the ceremony. Brian Little made a video which turned out well. He will be selling them as a fundraiser for the Broadcast Video program ($10).
CCI Camp will be held next week. We are getting donations to help with the snacks.
We have two new programs for this fall: Culinary Arts – Chef Henry Menard –
will be meeting in building B (using the kitchen from when WGTC had the conference center). Tammy Frost will be teaching Game Development Specialist. The students will learn how to program different kinds of games.
Kali Boatright thanked Mr. Carter for the update.
Old Business / CCI Banners in schools. Mr. Carter said Extreme Images will provide 2x4 or 2x6 banners for $5 foot.
End of Year Report
(with number of students who completed programs and their future plans)
Mandy said we have a contract through the BRIDGES Grant with the National Clearinghouse to track students in our high schools who go to college. This data will be available to the CCI in August. / Raise funds
Voted to approve spending for banners / Julian
New Business / Draft of Strategic Plan was distributed for information. Mandy Johnson said we will have base line data in August. Goal 1 – Perkins Funds – began indicator last year. The non-traditional students are hard to track. We have asked the DOE for assistance. Goal 2 – We will have 190 dual enrollment for the fall. Goal 3 – Work Ready Assessment is a 4 hour test. You must be 18 or older to take the test. Employers are requiring this test before hiring workers. Kali said the Chamber signed up to be certified to become a Work Ready Community. This is a three year process. The website is www.workready.org She encouraged everyone to participate. Goal 4 and 8 – Drop-out rate – 79.1 last year – that includes anyone who failed to finish school in 4 years. Rob Brown said that the Ombudsman Program is a company we contract with for 6th – 12th grade students (400 kids) for alternative school and night school. Goal 5 – We had 181 students receive certificates this year. Goal 6 – Seniors are given the opportunity to take the Work Ready test at each high school in October and March at no cost. We will have more information on the goals at the August meeting. / Re-visit at August Meeting / Kali, Julian, Mandy and Janet Baskin
Kali, Julian
Questions / Jerry Hall asked about a wallet size card containing CCI information with phone numbers of who to call, etc. that can be distributed when talking to people. Mandy said our Graphic Arts department can print them.
The Board Member Parent Term length was in question. Melody Saffo is our parent board member at-large. Her term is over. Since New Manchester High School will not open until fall of 2011, we will need to ask another parent at-large for this fall. / Check the Charter / Nora
Comments / Jerry Hall said we should have an assembly to tell the students about the CCI before we hang the banners.
We need to target the parents for support.
Counselors are the key to help students with advisement.
Rob Brown said we are training advisors as we speak. High School teachers will work with 8th graders on a six-year plan (8th grade, 4 years of high school and then their first year of college)
It was suggested that a table regarding information about the CCI be at each school for the Freshman Expo.
Mandy Johnson said we will send out a summer newsletter regarding Orientation.
