- CLASS NEWS!
Class 1
/ Autumn has well and truly landed in Class 1!
Our tough spot is full to bursting with key vocabulary, conkers, art work from home, acorns, phrases about Autumn, colourful leaves, playdough hedgehogs, art straw hedgehogs and chestnut shells! It’s certainly capturing the children’s learning. We have learnt several poems this week linked to Autumn and cleverly added our own verses and actions!
We are looking forward to spending next week in the woods exploring!!
Class 2
/ This week class 2 have written their own version of the story The Bog Baby. They have created some exciting adventure stories where they have collected lots of varied creatures.
In maths the children have begun learninga range of strategies to add and subtract numbers. In science the year 1s have identified the trees on the school grounds by examining their leaves and the year 2s have learnt about the life cycle of plants.
Class 3
/ Our Viking investigations highlighted the fact that the Vikings were great explorers and traders who traveled far and wide to exchange goods including silver, silks and spices, all of which were then taken back to their homeland. The children have studied books, maps and film clips to discover these interesting facts.
The mathematics topic has included addition both mentally and using the column method. We will be using the data collected during the recent homework to solve real life problems next week.
Class 4
/ This week was our last week doing science at OBA, and we certainly went out with a BANG! Miss Hanson explained the science behind the experiments we did including why fireworks are different colours, how you can light washing up bubbles with methane, how to crush a can with a Bunsen burner and some water and many more. She was that impressed by our class that she hopes we are able to come back after Christmas to do some more work with her!
We had our second Hoops for Health basketball session on Thursday which was great fun and we are looking forward to our third and final session on Monday next week – PE kits needed!
/ BOOK FAIR
Our book fair will be running from Wednesday 19th October until Tuesday 25th October. It will run in the hall from 3:15pm each night. The money raised from these fairs goes towards replenishing our library with books that your children want to read. Each class teacher will be holding a reading related competition where the winners will receive a £5 book voucher to use at the fair!
/ BLOCK PLAY
If anyone knows of a family with a child(ren) who are due to start in September 2017, do please encourage them to come along to our block play sessions on 15th November or 7th January 2017 at 1.30 – 2.30. This will be an opportunity for us to welcome parents and children and for you to get familiar with our school surroundings.
/ SCHOOL DISCO

Please ensure your child has a purse/wallet if they are bringing money to purchase the above. Entrance will be £2.50 and includes a hot dog and a drink.

MRS SHORROCKS – ACTIVE ASTONLast Friday afternoon out on the playground the “playleaders” from Class 4 planned, delivered and taught a variety of sessions to the whole school! I was so proud of their commitment to the younger children. They used such caring and positive words, taught new skills and encouraged team work.
Everybody gained an awful lot from it! The “playleaders” are now giving out certificates each day and are also keeping a log of the children who have received a warning! Perhaps because they’ve not used the equipment properly, or not been listening or even not being a team player! Thankfully this week the certificates have been handed out in abundance!
Next Monday 24th October Aston plays its 1st away football match of the season at Alvanley Primary School! The players are very excited! We have not been in the Football league for about 3 years!
This week the players tried on the kit! Can we thank Mr Plant who has managed to get the shirts embroidered with our logo- we look so smart. Let’s hope beginners luck is on our side!

Once again big thank you for you kind donations. Poppy’s will be on sale again from 8th November minimum donation 20p per poppy.
School Uniform
I know you are already taking on board messages regarding uniform and PE kit could I please remind you again to make sure your children are attending school in their correct uniform and PE kit is sent in. Please make sure uniform is clearly marked with your child/ren’s name on.
Trainers are not permitted as part of daily uniform and can only be worn as part of PE kit. Could I ask that children are sent into school with a coat as the weather is now getting a bit cooler , and as we are quite an ‘open area’ it is chilly in the playground.

R O A D S A F E T Y
Please be mindful of other drivers, cars and residents when driving down Aston Lane and parking your vehicles. Please refrain from doing 3 point turns outside the school. Please keep the yellow zig-zags CLEAR at all times –
Zig-Zags must be kept clear at all times. It is an offence to park/drop off/wait on them. While it may be well known that you can't park on yellow zig-zag lines, you also can't wait or even stop momentarily to drop off or pick up passengers, according to the UK Highway Code. This is because parking on yellow zig-zags outside schools puts children at risk, as outside school gates there are lots of children running around, buggy congestion and pre-school children.
