Our Philosophy / During the Middle Years of Learning at Park Lake State School we encourage engaged, global citizens that can effectively encompass high expectations for learning and act as leaders and role models for our younger learners. We promote strong personal values incorporating respect and empathy for all students and staff. Students enjoy a safe and happy student centred digital learning environment to build self esteem, standards and a future love of learning.
Our Curriculum Intent
To promote positive engagement and value of learning with the curriculum in years 4-7 we have curriculum goals for our students.
At Park Lake State School the curriculum should be focussed on assisting students to achieve their full potential in literacy and numeracy in accordance with Queensland Curriculum Assessment and Reporting (QCAR).To extend students’ skills and knowledge in these areas we use an individualised approach incorporating multiple intelligences and a range of learning styles to encourage learning at a middle phase level. This is reinforced by our multi-age philosophy which recognises that students learn in different ways and at different level. The curriculum should also have a focus on providing a current and meaningful context to support life long learning including ICT in all Key Learning Areas. We foster a safe and supportive learning environment which supports students taking risks with their learning and showcasing their talents. / Our Pedagogy
In the Middle Phase of Learning we believe that Multiple Intelligences theory is critical in catering for the needs of individuals. Individual needs of students will be taken into account inclusive of their entry point into learning, cultural backgrounds and prior experiences.
We support and foster learning in a number of ways. Students will be engaged in productive and hands on learning experiences that are enjoyable and fun for all participants. We encourage and equip students with the tools to make appropriate choices and to take responsibility for their actions and their learning. For quality learning to take place, teachers will utilise resources to further develop students’ learning,
Our Reporting
Our belief in the Middle Phase of Learning at Park Lake State School for reporting is to foster positive relationships with the wider community, creating a strong connection between home and school. To further develop these positive relationships with the community we should be informally and formally reporting to parents to encourage support and guidance both at home and school. These formal and informal reports should be used frequently so that parents have the opportunity to gain further insight into their child’s progress.
Teachers of Years 4-7 students provide written reports (EQ) to parents twice yearly with oral reporting also offered. Parents of Years 5 and 7 students are issued with a report on their child’s results in the Year 5 and 7 National Literacy and Numeracy Tests (NAPLAN). /

Our Assessment
In the Middle Phase of Learning at Park Lake State School our belief for assessment is that students will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their Essential Learnings in a range of contexts and media. To provide quality learning opportunities, across a multi-age setting where students can demonstrate their knowledge, understandings and skills it is important that a variety of assessment tasks are linked to current curriculum standards. These tasks reflect the developing knowledge and understanding of each student. The use of self reflection will be used by both students and teachers to engage in effective assessment techniques and to further inform future learning opportunities.
