Botetourt County
Botetourt County Court House Records
Botetourt County established in 1772 from Augusta County and included area to become Greenbrier County in 1778. Greenbrier Co included area to become Monroe County in 1799. Thus, Monroe Co area records for 1772 thru 1778 are in Botetourt Co.
There are no wills, deeds, survey, or marriage records found in BoCo for the Monroe James Ewing family in the 1772-1779 time frame. There is a 1774 survey of 270 acres for Joshua on the North side of the Greenbrier River (see copy).
There are numerous citings of Ewings in the Court Order Books, probably about members of the Pocahontas James Ewing family, the Monroe James Ewing family, and the Bedford County family. This records give little information and little indication of familial association. Ewings mentioned are: Baker, Charles, Daniel, Edward, George, James, James Jr., John, Mary, Oliver, Patty, Polly, Robert, Samuel, Thomas, and William.
There were also a number of citings of Sproul, probably of the Jackson River Sprowl family. These included Alexander, James, John, Margaret, Peter, Robert, Samuel, and William.

p. 410Ewing of Monroe Co, VA
James Ewing died there and named sons and daughters. Sons died and named brothers and sisters. Anne Kimball and I have spent much time and money and energy exploring all the Ewing information there, to no avail. This is one of the most baffling groups of Ewings thus far. James was there fairly early and his progeny were widespread. We have seen no biography, family information to identify whence they came.
