How to upload artifacts and reflective essays into your Hallmarks Folio

Your Hallmarks Folio is easy to manage—once you’ve followed the steps below once or twice, you’ll have the hang of it. Before you start, make sure that you have a copy of the digital file that you want to upload to your Folio. That file should be a sample of your work that shows your progress towards one of the Hallmarks learning goals (we call this kind of sample an “artifact”)—the Folio application can accept almost any kind of digital file of almost any size.

  1. Go to the Blackboard site (bb.philau.edu) and log in with your PhilaU username and password.
  2. In Blackboard, look under My Courses to find the link for Hallmarks Program for General Education. Click on that link.
  3. Once you are in the Hallmarks Program site on Blackboard, click on the link for “Upload an Artifact” in the left-hand column.
  4. In the “Upload an Artifact” page, scroll down to find the correct category for your artifact, which is based on the Hallmarks outcome that your course is emphasizing, and whether the artifact is from a course in your major, a course in the Hallmarks Core, or from a co-curricular activity. When you’ve found the right category, click on the link labeled “Click here to view in Pathbrite.”
  5. When you’ve arrived at the Pathbrite page, you’ll see a large gray box with an arrow symbol in it labeled “Upload Work.”
  6. Click on the gray box and you’ll see a pop-up box with some options for uploading your file. Usually, you’ll want to choose the first option, which is “My Computer.” Click on the “My Computer” icon and then navigate through your computer files to find the file for your artifact. Select that file and then click the “Open” button. Your file will begin to upload into your Folio.
  7. Once your file is uploaded, you’ll be back at the original Pathbrite screen. Here you’ll see two text boxes. The top box is the label for your artifact. You can leave that as it is, so that viewers of your portfolio will know which Hallmarks learning goal is being fulfilled by your artifact.
  8. The larger text box below the title is the space for posting your reflective essay. You can delete the instructional text there and either type or paste your reflective essay there. Follow the instructions on the Hallmarks web site (philau.edu/hallmarks) for writing a good essay. The text box has room for about 300 words, which is just over one normal typed page.
  9. Once you’ve uploaded your file and added the reflective essay, you can complete your posting by clicking the “Submit” button at the bottom of the screen. If you don’t want to publish your work yet, you can choose the “Save Draft” option instead and finish it later.
  10. When your artifact is successfully submitted, you’ll see a pop-up box that says “Nice Work!” At the bottom of that box, there is a link labeled “View My Portfolio” and another labeled “Close Window.” Click “View My Portfolio” if you want to see everything that you have posted so far!
