Worked at Mustard Seed School in Sacramento, reading with children and assisting in individual and group instruction. We focused on phonological awareness and emergent literacy skills.

Served at Our Lady of Piety Church in San Jose, serving meals to persons experiencing homelessness

Worked at St. John Neighborhood Center in Hayward, tutoring Asian elders from the community who were working toward their U.S. citizenship; we focused on improving oral and written English skills.

Taught Sunday school to junior high school students. Gained experience in group management and tailoring lessons to individual learning styles.

Went to Mexico with my church group to build homes for low-income families

Volunteered in daughter’s elementary school, assisting in her classroom in grades 1, 2, 3. I helped create classroom materials and worked individually with students who were struggling in math.

Multicultural Experience

At Mustard Seed School (above), children were from the following backgrounds: White, African American, and Latino. Most of the Latino children’s parents were migrant workers from Mexico.

In my daughter’s elementary school, I worked closely with several Slavic students, helping them with their English and overall academic skills. These students spoke Russian and Ukrainian. I also tutored students from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Syria in subjects such as social studies and math.

As mentioned above, I worked with elderly Asian clients who spoke the languages of Hmong, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Mien.

I am Filipino and speak fluent Tagalog. I have also taken introductory Spanish.
