The Lewis and Clark Chapter is excited to see where the new leadership will take us. The Lewis and Clark Chapter is already looking forward to another exciting year of presentations, workshops, and active involvement throughout our community. You can keep up to date with the Lewis and Clark Chapter by visiting our web page at icalewisandclarkchapter.org .
The Chapter has had two very successful planning meetings this summer. Jennifer and members developed a very detailed strategic plan outlining goals for the Chapter for the upcoming year. Some of these goals included hosting meetings with presentations by guest speakers on topics of interest to Chapter members, continuing to offer CE credit for attendance at presentations, participating in co-sponsoring the Southern Illinois Mini Conference in March 2011, supporting local depression and eating disorder screenings, being proactive in legislative and other forms of advocacy for local counselors, increasing member retention and recruitment for both ICA and our Chapter, and Chapter visibility at ICA sponsored events and on Governing Council. We also plan to continue to work with our Regional Representative and local colleges/universities to promote the counseling profession and recruit new members and potential future leaders.
The Chapter will host a meeting and guest speaker presentation on December 2, 2010 at 5:30PM at Moonlight Restaurant in Alton, IL. The presentation will be Understanding Addiction by Ken Kubicek, PhD., LCPC. Ken is the Department Chair of the Professional & School Counseling graduate degree program at LindenwoodUniversity in Belleville, IL. Ken is also the author of the bookRecovering_Alcoholics: Why They Say They Are Successful.
Other meetings and presentations are planned for February 3, 2011 and April 7, 2011. Please watch the webpage icalewisandclarkchapter.orgfor more details as these meetings come together.
In addition to planning for local meetings and presentations, the Lewis and Clark Chapter continues to work with ICA President Elect Yonah Kelm on the 2011 Southern Illinois Conference. We have been fighting for years to get ICA to bring more conferences to our area and sponsoring this conference in our region is a positive sign of our efforts.
