Welcome to the NQF e-bulletin, the department’s e-newsletter to support early childhood education and care services to implement the National Quality Framework.
Severe weather forecast – northern Queensland
The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that a tropical low off the northern coast of Queensland is expected to intensify into a cyclone.
It is reported that the system may affect communities from Cape Tribulation to Coen.
All service providers in, or surrounding, this area are encouraged to check the Bureau of Meteorology website regularly for the latest information.

Streamlining notification process during a natural disaster
The department is working to make it easier for services, required to close their service as a result of a natural disaster, to notify the department and keep families up-to-date.
Service providers can now notify the department about your service’s closure, or intention to close, by simply emailing and copying the relevant regional office ( or ).
By emailing the department immediately following the decision to close a service, you will ensure you meet the notification requirements under the National Law.
You will not need to complete a separate notification form.
Sending the email before 4.00pm will enable the latest information about the service’s closure to be published on the department website and provided to local media.
This streamlined process will support service providers’ efforts to keep families and staff informed about their service’s status.
Once you decide to reopen your service, you can advise the department using the same process. The department website can then be updated to provide ‘real time’ information to the public about the re-commencement of service provision in their communities.
Approved providers who are unable to email the department should notify their regional office in the usual way.
Direct communication between service providers and their parent communities will remain critical in the event of a natural disaster.
