Girls’ Softball – Minor (ages 9-10) Rules
Thedivision will use Official ASA Rules with the following exceptions:
- See schedule for game times
- Game will consist of six (6) innings. Four (4) innings must be completed to make a game.
- No inning will begin after 8:15 p.m.
2. Field is reserved for practice as follows:
- Visitors – take the field first up to 15 minutes before game time
- Home Team – take field final 15 minutes before game time
3. The farm team should be utilized when a team is short players. If after 15 minutes one or both team(s) cannot field eight players the team(s) will borrow players from each other to play the game. There are NO FORFEITS. Use farm team (first) or borrow a player (second).
4. No player will sit for more than two (2) consecutive innings in a game.
5. All players must bat in order. Players that arrive later will be added to the end of the batting order.
6. Pitchers are limited to three (3) innings per game. One pitch in an inning constitutes an inning pitched. (2 consecutive innings pitched eliminated)
7. A maximum of five (4) runs per inning, except the last inning is unlimited. In the event of slow play, the coaches and umpire will agree what the last inning will be. Example, if the 4th inning completes at 8:00 p.m. the coaches and umpire will agree that the 5th inning is the last inning.
8. Catchers speed-up rule is in effect.
9. Runner cannot leave the base until the ball crosses the plate. No stealing until May 24th.
10. Guideline - generous strike zone will be used – let parents and players know this.
11. Bunting will be allowed.
12. At the start of play, outfielders should be placed in correct position, no creeping closer to the infield. Outfielders must stay out 10 feet from the edge of the infield. Four players in the infield, 10 players total on field.*
13. Home team furnishes two (2) new balls; the girls will be using an 11” ball.

15. If no umpire is present at the start, a coach or volunteer will umpire the game. Please respect the umpire’s decision.

16. Sliding should be taught and encouraged.No collisions with fielder. Fielder will not block base without possession of ball.
17. Lightning – When lightning is seen or thunder is heard, the playing field is to be cleared immediately. Players should wait in vehicles for 15 minutes to determine if the storm is going to pass. Play cannot continue until 15 minutes have passed without any sign of lightning or sound of thunder. Coaches will help to enforce this rule.
18. A runner cannot score from third base on a wild pitch, passed ball and cannot steal on a throw back. Runners on the other bases may advance to an unoccupied base at their own risk. Player can only score on batted ball or walk or played upon.
19. There is NO “dropped third strike” rule.
20. One defensive coach is allowed in the outfield.
21. There is no infield fly rule.
22. The pitching distance is 30 feet.
23. A ball returned from a defensive player is considered dead when the pitcher has control of the ball within the 10 ft. pitcher’s circle. If the runner (advanced batter) is more than halfway to the next base, she is awarded that base. If runner is less than halfway, she goes back to the base she last touched. A ball returned from the catcher after a pitch is considered a dead ball. Ball becomes live only after the next batted ball.
24. In the event of a double header, both games will be five (5) inning games with a four (4) run limit per inning. Pitchers arelimited to three (3) innings per game. Pitchers are limited to six(6) total innings.
