Dear Parade Participants:
Please join the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department in planning an awesome Parade celebration for The City of Oxford’s two day “Freedom Festival.” We are teaming up with the Oxford Visitor’s Bureau to host the Parade uptown just before the Music Festival on Sunday July 2nd. The Parade theme is “United We Stand”; so decorate your float or group and show your appreciation to the armed forces!
The event will be held on July 2nd , 6:30 p.m. in uptown Oxford; Parade line up is no later than 6:00 p.m.
We ask that Parade participants arrive on Walnut St. behind the Community Arts Center or in front of the old Lane Library. When you arrive, one of the Oxford Parks and Recreation Staff members will instruct you on where to line up.
The Parade route will start on the corners of Walnut Street and College Avenue. The Parade will proceed North on College Avenue then turn East on High Street and end at the intersection of Popular and High Street.
Children can decorate their bikes and ride in the Children’s Bike Parade. Each child will receive a gift bag. We also encourage pet owners to dress up their pets and walk with us. Each pet owner will also receive a gift bag. Prizes will be awarded for parade floats: 1st- $100, 2nd - $75 and 3rd - $50.
If you have groups joining your float please be precise on where to meet to pick up children.
NOTE: The Oxford Community Arts Center is not available to change clothes or use the restroom.
We welcome and encourage groups to bring candy for the crowd, but candy tossers must be walking alongside the float, or outside of their groups. Toss the candy gently at people’s feet away from the main parade route, to avoid injury or children entering the parade route.
