Kappy’s Fine Wine and Spirits, located at21 Spring Bars Road in Falmouth, will be holding a their Winterfest Beer Cider tasting from 2-5 PM this Saturday, January 28th. Admission to the Winterfest Beer and Cider Tasting is free of charge.
There will be 30 tables at the eventand each table will be pouring anywhere from 4-5 samples eachwith food paired to go with the beer. In addition, the Quahog Republic will be there with samples of their Seafood Chowder.
Each of the vendors will be providing raffle items and 100% of the proceeds from the raffle will go directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod to support the 999 Cape Cod children and teens that they serve every year at their essentially free afterschool winter program and affordable summer camp.
Raffle items range from a pair of lift tickets to ski at Saddleback Mountain in Maine from Geary’s Brewery, a $50 Gift Certificate for Kappy’s, a rolling Bass Ale deck cooler with umbrella holder, to commemorative glasses and T-shirts from various beer and cider companies. Raffle prize winners will be drawn by the kids at the Club later that week and winners need not be present to win.
“It’s winter on Cape Cod and there’s no playoff game. What better way to spend an afternoon than inside sipping beer and cider from so many breweries, and eating food that’s paired with the beer?” asked Ruth Provost, executive director at the Boys & Girls Club. “We are very grateful to Kappy’s for donating all the proceeds from the raffle to our children. It is a struggle to raise the money we need to stay open every year and we couldn’t do it without help from local businesses like this.”
Vendors at the tasting include Cape Cod Beer, which is locally brewed in Hyannis by Beth and Todd Marcus,in addition to beers fromShipyard, Seadog, Long Trail, Otter Creek, Leinenkugel's, Blue Moon, Killians, Mayflower Brewing, Oskar Blues, Peak Organic, Ipswich, Newport Storm, Geary's, Victory, Troegs, Sam Adams, Harpoon, Wachusett, Boulevard Brewing, St. Bernardus, St. Louis Lambics, Sierra Nevada, Fuller's, Haverhill Brewing, Brooklyn, Cisco, Lagunitas, Guinness, Ommegang/Duvel, & Baxter's and ciders from Woodchuck & Magner's.
“One of our parents works at Kappy’s and organizes a couple of tasting sessions a year, and it is through her efforts that we were designated to receive the proceeds of the raffle,” said Provost.
Club parent Sinead Casey said “I am very grateful to the Boys & Girls Club for providing a fun, safe place for my daughter to go after school and during the summer while I work. Without them, I don’t know what I’d do, so I wanted to give something back to them. Our beer tasting created the perfect opportunity to do so.”
“One of the major benefits of having a Boys & Girls Club on Cape Cod is our ability to provide a safe and affordable place for children. It’s a resource that working parents desperately need. Fundraisers like this help us keep our fees almost non-existent during the school year so parents can work without worrying about where their children are, or what they are doing. We know that many of our kids would be going home to empty houses afterschool without the Boys & Girls Club, so we are grateful for donations like this,” said Provost. “If you can’t make it to the tasting on Saturday, we have a secure online donation site where folks can use a credit card to help us support those families and kids.”she added.
