CITROEN C4 ADDS PERSONAL SECURITY TO ITS SAFETY ACCOLADES
The Citroen C4 has matched it class-leading occupant and pedestrian safety performance with class-leading personal safety and security, according to independent test results released today (24 January 2006) by NRMA Insurance.
Not to be outdone, the Citroen C2 is first equal in its class, the second year it has taken this position, providing a unique blend of safety, style and performance in a car designed and equipped for the urban environment.
“These results provide just how seriously Citroen takes all forms safety,” says Miles Williams, General Manager of Citroen in Australia. “The C4 has a five star Euro-NCAP rating for occupant protection in the event of an accident, it has class leading performance for pedestrian safety and now it can add to its safety accolades personal security protection. With active safety features – those designed to avoid an accident in the first place – such as the speed limiter and cruise control that is standard on all versions of the C4, as well as ABS brakes with EBD and EBA, and it is clear that the C4 is designed to be safe under all conditions.”
Personal safety features are designed to protect car owners from attack and theft attempts while they are with or approach their cars.
Features fitted to the Citroen C4 as standard that are praised by the NRMA include remote control headlights that can be activated away from the car to see if anyone is lurking nearby and used to light-up a path away from the car. The C4 not only has central locking that operates deadlocks in the doors, the boot also locks automatically as the car drives away and the doors can be programmed to lock as soon as the car goes above 10 kmh. The central locking provides an audible warning if a door is not closed properly and the lights flash as a warning when the car is locked and unlocked. If the C4 is accidentally unlocked, it will re-lock itself after 30 seconds if a door is not opened.
The C4 HDi Turbo Diesel, which arrives on 1 February 2006, also adds a long range capability, reducing refuelling stops, with it able to do more than 1000 km on a tank of fuel.
“Woman should definitely be considering personal security features when deciding on the purchase of a new car,” says Juliet Potter from SHEdrives, the organisation committed to informing woman about the car industry. “Given that woman now purchase 50 per cent of all new cars and have the final say in 85 per cent of all new car purchases, personal car security should be of the utmost importance in vehicle design.”
The Citroen C4 range opens with a recommended retail price of $25,990 for both the C4 Coupé and five door hatch with a 1.6 litre engine. The range topping C4 Coupé VTS is $36,990 and the newly launched Citroen C4 HDI is $29,990. The security conscious Citroen C2 VTR has a recommended retail price of $22,990.
