TO ALL RECRUITS AND PARENTS:
We want to thank you for your interest in the Young Marine Organization and especially in the Washington County Young Marine Unit.
The information attached is very important to us and needs special attention. In order for us to do our jobs to the best of our ability we need you to do your part as well. All forms must be filled out completely including the Physicians Report and Code of Conduct. Please review all of the information carefully yourself and with your son or daughter. Please make sure that they understand before they sign any of the documents. In addition to the application everyone must turn in a copy of the child’s birth certificate and most recent report card. Any incomplete application will be returned to you and will prevent your son or daughter from beginning drills. All fees and paperwork must be turned in and approved by the staff before any new recruit can attend drill.
We want to make this experience for your son or daughter, as well as parents, a lasting one. Everyone’s cooperation and understanding from the beginning is needed. If your child has any limitations (physical, medical, etc), please let us know this upfront. During times when it would be necessary for our staff to disburse medication to your child (such as overnighters) the medications must be presented in the original containers with the original prescribed dosages clearly marked. Applicants for the Young Marines currently under prescribed behavior oriented medication will be handled on a case by case basis.
During the year we will be having special events that may change the regular training schedule. We will notify you as soon as possible of those changes. For the most part, all of the communication is done via email, so please make sure that you write your email address clearly on the right hand corner of the application so we can make sure that you are kept well informed. Our training schedule can also be found on our website at
(Page 2, Recruit Parent Introduction Cont’d)
We do understand that it is important that you know what your child will be learning and doing during his or her time with us, please feel free to speak to the staff about any questions that you may have. After the recruits are accepted into the unit, it is NOT advised or recommended for parents to stay during drill times. All Training Staff and Registered Adults are required to pass a detailed and endorsed background investigation by Young Marine National Headquarters. Additionally, we have found it beneficial and uninhibited for the Young Marines if their parents, family and/ or friends are not watching them train. There are plenty of opportunities during the training where observation and involvement is encouraged to help you appreciate what your son or daughter has accomplished from his or her hard work.
The registration fee is $95.00. The registration fee is non-refundable. The required uniform for each recruit is blue-jeans, black t-shirt (no pocket), and boots. You will be responsible for purchasing your child’s boots and canteen. The unit can get them for you at a cost of $20.00 for the boots and $10.00 for the canteen. Each recruit will be issued a belt and a cover. During periods of cold weather, a black pull-over sweatshirt can be worn. When your child completes recruit training they will be issued their young marine uniform which will consist of camouflage trousers and blouse, a red national T-shirt, name tapes and patches. All gear issued to your child is the property of the unit. If and when your child leaves the unit all gear must be returned to the unit. If the gear is not returned, you will be expected to pay to have the gear replaced.
There is a yearly re-registration fee of $45.00. Re-registration takes place every September. You will also need to supply a yearly physical for your child at this time.
We want to thank you for your interest in the Young Marine Organization. If you have any questions, please feel free to email them to or call
