Class Description:

This class is intended to teach you the various programs and methods to weight training from a beginner’s point of view. At the completion of the class you will have learned proper weight lifting form & safety. Also, various sets & repetition schemes will be taught.

Class Objective:

The student will learn how to implement the different programs and methods to help them achieve their weight training goals. The proper form and technique of a lifting exercise will be taught. Proper “spotting” techniques to enhance safety while lifting will be addressed. By the end of the semester the student will have been taught how to get a solid foundation for future weight training sessions. They will also have seen that weight training can be fun, safe, and beneficial!

Proper lifting technique / Handouts & in-class demonstration
Learn how to set up a training program for individual needs / Handout as well as training log kept by students & inspected by the instructor daily
Set goals to be achieved by the semesters end / Goals will be addressed & dealt with on an individual basis
Increased overall body strength / Progress assessment from first max
Improved body composition / Progress assessment from first measurements, weigh in & body fat %
Better overall knowledge of vocabulary & muscle systems / Handouts & class participation

Required Class Material:

Appropriate attire for weight training is recommended. Street clothing will not be allowed during workouts. Excessive jewelry will also not be permitted. Athletic clothing & shoes are desired. Bring your own towel if needed. A spiral notebook or an actual training log book will be needed.

Attendance:

This is an activity class where your improvement depends solely on your attendance & enthusiastic participation. A strong work ethic is a must. If circumstances arise that will require you to miss a class please notify the instructor ahead of time. A short written assignment may be assigned to cover the missed time. More than three unexcused absences will result in a “W” grade.

Grading:

Grades will be based on:

  1. Attendance
  2. Training log
  3. Participation

Grade will be given as Pass/Withdrawal. If you withdrawal from the class please do so officially at student services as well as informing the instructor.
