Hello and welcome to Netherfield Cricket Club for todays Northern League encounter with Preston.

This is a big gamefor the team after the disappointment of losing to Morecambe last Saturday.

It’s important to get the league form up and running, after whats been a frustrating few weeks.

The last home match with Penrith getting rained off wasn’t ideal especially as most of the other teams in the league played.

Prior to that gameNetherfield lost at Lancaster in a rain reduced game, as Lancaster chased down a revised target to win.

Victory over Leyland in The Readers Cup, an example of the inconsistent nature of the 2014 season. That said the rain was certainly a help to us on that day, knocking off a score of 108 in 18 overs, is far easier than chasing a score of 230 +. Netherfield still had a job to do, and with John Huck in red hot form that day their was only ever going to be one winner.

We now face a semi final trip to St Annes tomorrow where the winners face either Kendal or The Lancashire Colts.

As for today, Preston are a very hard team to predict, you just don’t know what level of performance they are going to produce. Their last few games has seen them bat out 58 overs for a losing draw at Barrow. A fantastic effort especially when you consider how dominant Barrow were in that game. They then lose heavily to Leyland at West Cliff, before producing another encouraging display to take a winning draw at Penrith.

In 2 of their last 3 games Jibran Kahn has hit two centuries, and ironically he has been out for the same score of 101 in the last 2 of those 3 matches.

They also have a decent professional in Soyeb Dukanwala whilst in the wickets Saeed Bariwala and Andrew Starkie have been taking wickets on a regular basis.

We also lost to Preston earlier in the season in what was one of the worst performances of the season, so it won’t be an easy game. The league games are starting to run out, before 6 months of winter return, so its important that the team can improve their league placing hopefully starting today.

After this game Netherfield have next Saturday off, before the Twenty-20 Area Finals on the Sunday. The finals to be played at Bradshaw Cricket Club where we face another tough game against Northern at 2pm.

In other news, the seconds ended their bad run of form with a dramatic 1 wicket win over Morecambe. Mike Dugdale rolling back the years with an unbeaten 51 batting at number 8. Brad Airey at number 9 scoring an unbeaten 23 a crucial knock, whilst Matt Goodall batted well for his 47.

The Thirds are flying high at the top, they keep on winning in very close games. The thirds hosting Kendal today before hosting them again tomorrow in the 30/30 cup and Boydys 4ths are away at Ingleton before hosting Galgate in the Cup ¼ final tomorrow at 2pm

The club would like to thank Ramblers for sponsoring todays game, as well as Derek Mason for being the ball sponsor. We hope you have a good afternoon with us at Netherfield Cricket Club

THE OPPOSITION:

Preston CC is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world. The club played on three different grounds at the Marsh near Ashton, Penwortham Holme and Penwortham Marsh before establishing West Cliff in 1859.

Preston joined the Liverpool Competition in 1947 after previously having a club policy of participating only in friendly fixtures. After missing the inaugural Northern League season they became members of the league in 1953.

Preston were joint champions in 1967 and won the title outright in 1970 and 1983 and were division two champions in 1962 and 1986.

West Cliff staged five Lancashire CCC first-class fixtures between 1936 and 1952.
