Adverse Weather Procedures
We are now definitely into winter and I would like to remind parents of the procedures that are followed should we suffer with adverse weather conditions. The decision to close the school is never taken lightly, but would take into account the health and safety of pupils, staff and parents travelling to and from school as well as the impact on theday to day routines. Should the decision to close be made, parents will be informed via text message and email as early as possible. The information will also be posted on the school website and broadcasted on Lincs FM and Humberside BBC radio.
Further information regarding re-opening school will be posted and regularly updated on our website.
I would ask that parents check these sources of information rather than ringing school. If there has been no notification then please take it that we will be open for business as usual.
Attendance/ Leave of Absence Procedures
I would like to thank parents for working with us to ensure our pupils attend school regularly. Recent figures show our attendance figures have remained above national levels.
A reminder that all absences from school must be accounted for, including illnesses and medical appointments. We would appreciate an early phone call if your child is going to be away from school for any reason.
The following information is taken from the Education Inclusion Service documentation regarding leave of absence requests:
A request for a leave of absence may be made to the headteacher by completing the application form available from the office or the school website. Leave may be granted where evidence is given regarding circumstances that are deemed to be exceptional. Leave of absence is not an entitlement and will not be granted for the sole purpose of a family holiday.
If an absence is taken that has not been authorised the information will be submitted to the Education Inclusion Service who mayissue a penalty notice, or take other legal intervention, if there are 10 or more consecutive or non-consecutive unauthorised absence sessions (5 days). Penalty notices were introduced as an alternative to prosecution but if they fail to act as a future deterrent, prosecution may be considered rather than a further penalty.
Anti-Bullying Week
Next week (14th November) is ‘Anti Bullying Week’. The theme this year is ‘Power for Good’ – encouraging everyone to think about how they can use their power to help stop bullying. Older pupils will consider appropriate and safe ways to use Social Media, whilst younger pupils will focus on friendships and playground rules.
Friends of Belton School
Congratulations to our new FoBs committee who recently organised a very successful Autumn Ball raising nearly £1300 for the school. Plans for the Christmas Fair are well underway; offers of help for this event or for new committee members would be gratefully received. Please contact the office if you able to help.
