AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CELEBRATE THE RIVERSIDE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM ON WINNING THE 2017 CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO COMMEND THESE RUNNERS ON A STELLAR SEASON.
Whereas, having shot past all comers, the RiversideHigh School girls cross country team collected sixtythree points and outscoredGreenville County rival J.L. Mann, thus nailing the 2017 Class AAAAAState Championship title; and
Whereas, held on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Sandhill Research Center in Columbia, the championship meet handed the Lady Warriors their fifth state crown in a row; and
Whereas, exhilarated Warrior fans, reveling in Riverside’s decisive win, were already making plans to return in 2018 to watch their team repeat the feat; and
Whereas, Coach Eric Cummingsand his skilled assistants, HeatherGreene and ToddLea, were determined to see their runners show the best that was in them. Accordingly, they drilled these athletes in hard work, selfdiscipline, and team spirit, and the results speak for themselves; and
Whereas, to addeven greater luster to the Riverside crown, the Lady Warriors made it their fifthyear in a row without a loss to a South Carolina team (1980 dual record in five years plus ninetyseveninvitational wins). In addition, Riverside produced three AllState selections, sophomore Jessie Crowley, eighthgrader Katherine Rogers, and sophomore Laura MacGregor; and
Whereas, further, Coach Eric Cummings was named SCTCCCA 5A Girls Coach of the Year, Greenville County Girls & Boys Coach of the Year, and Region 25A Boys & Girls Coach of the Year; and
Whereas, the House extends its best congratulations to the Riverside High School girls cross country team, the thirtyfirstranked girls team in the country, and is pleased to add its collective voice of praise to the many accolades that have flowed in on the occasion of the school’s capturing the top prize at the 2017 state competition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Riverside High School girls cross country team on winning the 2017 Class AAAAAState Championship title and commend these runners on a stellar season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Andy Crowley and Coach Eric Cummingsof Riverside High School.
