Stay Focused on the Agenda
Agenda:
- Meeting Norms– “Start and end on time.” Was chosen as the meeting norm to focus on this month.
- PPT–Review
- 2020 Equity Council K-4 with Kathy.
Jaime Lynn’s group could not stay objective about the schools that are on the chopping block.
- Information needed:
- Community voice
- Transportation issues for parents that do not have cars
- $ general fund concern with building in the community being left run down
- Facilitator was an ESM parent. Hartford vs Non – Hartford “Why aren’t all students performing at the same level? Hartford have outperformed Non-Hartford at ESM.
- School closures in the North End have been hit the hardest.
- South End less effected: schools have been renovated (Burr, M.D. Fox. ...)
- Article in the Hartford Courant on Equity
- School closures in Phases 1, 2 … No win situation; angry students &teachers being dispersed
- Sending low functioning students to schools that are not high performing.
- Committee not happy with any of the plans available. May take longer than they think.
- Have schools (K-8, 9-12) or (K-5, 6-8, 9-12)

- Teacher seniority by district not by school for “Open Positions”
- Close schools 2 or 3 schools per year: Burns, Capital Community, Global High School
4. State conducting a study for funding for next year. ESM doing well because we are at full capacity 613 total.
5. Budget Principal’s meeting Jan/Feb allotment for school based budget will be released during this meeting
6. Workshop: Welcome Center General high level. Jaime asked specific questions but didn’t get any answers.
- School closings
- Getting 1 more student per class impact
- State re-evaluating the cut off for class numbers per room: Magnet 20
7. Tim L. Meetings that were more productive, engage in the process to be more helpful. What can we put together that will be helpful? As opposed to a meeting that is very general. What can we do to help now?

- Presented budget for the year
- Grants for teachers
- New blood – What can they do for the kids? Student response – More sports and different programs.
10. Jaime, Karen and other SGC members will attend PTA meeting to present Power Point 5:30 Nov. 16th

- Funding for no basketball team
- Cost $4000 for each team boys/girls
- Session starts end of Nov.

- No decision has been made
- Teachers by contract get paid but can volunteer
- Cross country – no fall allowed
- Baseball is a cluster
