Youth Cabinet Formal Meeting Minutes

Announcements and Information Sharing
Sofia spoke about the big debate and what everyone attending the event did. There was an information fair and workshops were run. There was also a panel of decision makers including MP for MK South Ian Stewart. Everyone on the panel pledged to do something regarding the debates that were held. It was held at MK Stadium.
Folu spoke about the Mp’s Debate Competition that she judged last week. It was a competition of schools from Milton Keynes South.
Brandyn spoke about his meeting with Baroness Young at an Information Fair that he attended recently. He is shadowing her for a day soon.
ACTION – THE GROUP IS TO MESSAGE BRANDYN WITH ANY INFORMATION OR IDEAS THEY HAVE EGARDING HOUSING/PLANNING AND HEALTH.
Rachel spoke about the MYP and DMYP meeting that was held in the half term. They wrote a letter together to MP’s about the Votes at 16 Private Members Bill. This sparked a discussion among the group about the Bill. Ian Stewart did not attend and the group was unsure about Mark Lancaster.

Positive Stories
Roz explained what positive stories were and why we should write them.

Bag Packing
Georgia spoke about the YCAB Bag Pack that is being held on the 17th December
ACTION – THE GROUP ARE TO LET GEORGIA OR ROZ KNOW IF THEY CAN GO TO THE BAG PACK
New Members
The group were introduced to the new YCAB Members
New Members – Faiza, Ben, Nadiya and Fay
Checking Manifestos
The group were split up and read the manifestos
Improvements were made to the manifestos
ACTION – MANIFESTOS ARE TO BE SENT OUT BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR
YCAB Grant Giving Scheme and Budget
Roz explained that YCAB’s budget and our current spending for the year.
Everyone but one person (Zac) agreed that any underspending should go towards YIS
Zac disagreed and suggested that the money goes towards young carers instead
Brandyn suggested that the group apply to O2 for grant money and suggested that we run a fundraiser alongside YIS
Roz explained that the O2 have changed their funding policy and that it is now more difficult to get money. She did not dismiss a fundraiser but said that her concern was that it would require a lot more time and effort from YCAB that YIS trustees could do themselves.
Make Your Mark and House of Commons Debate
Folu explained what Make your Mark and Youth parliament is and the results of the election:
- Votes at 16
- Transport
- Curriculum for life
- Work experience hubs for 11-18 year olds
- Protect LGBT+ people

Campaign Work
The group split off into their campaign groups to work on their individual projects
