School Organizational Team Minutes

The Gilbert Magnet School Organizational Team meeting was called to order at 5:05pm on May 4, 2017. The meeting was held in the Art Room at Gilbert Magnet School.

Old Business

  • Ms. Daniels reported that the staff liked the idea of the SOT being a fundraising body.

New Business

  • A suggestion was made to have a liaison that could take information back to PTA throughout the year. We want to keep parent volunteers coming all year and especially at events. It was discussed to have PTA app where volunteers can sign-up electronically. Also, inviting the WatchDOGS to the PTA programs. PTA is looking into the difference between a PTA and a PTO organization. Ms. Daniels mentioned that PTA is guarded under the National PTA as far as liability policies, which allows them to host events at the school. Otherwise, a PTO would have to get their own $1,000,000 policy.
  • Ms. Daniels clarified that the Leadership Team from the school is in charge of Student Generated Funds (SGF), the SOT team is in charge of the CCSD budget. The school staff determines the use of fundraising funds. She is thinking of doing the Save Around books next year instead of magazines. We get 50% of the sales, which is about $12.50 per book sold. It also has an app that will alert you when you are close to a savings and keychain cards.
  • Budget update – Notification from the Magnet office that the $6,000 for piano is no longer coming from the Magnet office. Ms. Daniels doesn’t feel like we won’t get it, but asked the team to keep that amount in the back of our heads in case of worst case scenario and the school has to pay for it.
  • Ms. Daniels let the team know that we have gone forward and that the staff is looking at Reading series to adopt. We are having a second training from the first presenter because the staff still has some questions. It was mentioned that the staff did not discuss money, so the decision was based solely on the materials that they prefer to use.
  • Math- First and second grade are under contract and the contract starts as each grade level receives the materials.
  • Recruiting/Branding – It was mentioned that after a student is admitted that we hold tours. Also, the website could include information of how Arts Integration looks in the classroom. Having videos on the website would be beneficial. Also, a video about Integrations. The use of student greeters is impressive.
