Tuesday: 8 parts of speech

1)N = noun ; Write entire word above N for the type common, proper, possessive

2)V=verb; Write letter before V for the type A= action , L= linking, H= helping verb

3)PN=Pronoun;Write abbreviation above PN for the type nom=nominative (subject) rel=relative

obj=objective (object) inter=interrogative

PPN=possessive dem=demonstrative

ref=reflexive ind=indefinite

inten=intensive

4)Adj= adjective, A=article (a, an, the)

5)Adv=adverb

6)Conj=conjunction; Write above Conj for the type coor= coordinating

sub=subordinating

corr=correlative

7)PREP=preposition

8)Int=interjection

9)Verb Tenses (Write above verb type)

pres t. =Simple Present(talk) pres perf t.=present perfect(have or has talked)

10) Verbals: inf=infinitive; inf phr=infinitive phrase (Place parenthesis around)

Wednesday: Parts of a Sentence

1)ss= simple subject(and underline one time); cs=complete subject (write above the arc)

2)sp=simple predicate(and underline two times); cp=complete predicate (write above the arc)

3)Write either above SP---Can only be an AV(action moves to DO) v.t.= transitive verb

Can be AV or LV (no DO) v.i.= intransitive verb

4)Comes after AV DO= direct object/ Comes between AV and DO IO=indirect object

5)Noun or Pronoun after LV (renames ss) PredNom=predicate nominative

Adjective after LV (describes ss) PredAdj=predicate adjective

6)Place parenthesis around prepositional phrase ( )

Write under the phrase for the type Adj Prep Phr= adjective prepositional phrase

Adv Prep Phr=adverb prepositional phrase

Last word in a prepositional phrase OP=object of the preposition
