SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCILMEETING
DECEMBER 20, 2017
The SAC meeting of December 20,2017was held in the front office conference room. In attendance were the following:

I.WELCOME
Ms. Leschcalled the meeting to order at 3:00 P.M. Those in attendance were welcomed, packets were distributed, and introductions were made.
II.REVIEW MINUTES OF
NOV. 6,2017 MEETING
Minutes from the meeting of November 6,2017 were read and reviewed. Martha Adams motioned to accept the minutes, and Angela Adams seconded the motion.

III. SIP INITIATIVES
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES:
Angela Adams advised that the instructional staff are completing the book study “Better Than Carrots or Sticks.” She further advised that the second semester topic is pending.
LITERACY INITIATIVES:
Reading, Writing, and Math Assessments– Angela Adams advised that the Assessments have continued as scheduled. Sheexplained that secondary students have taken the Reading Assessment and have done make-ups for the Writing Assessment. Angela Adams further advised that the Math Assessment was held during the week of December 11th.
Incentives:
Silent Sustained Reading– Angela Adams commented that the silent sustained reading have continued as scheduled with weekly drawings for rewards.
Other Activities:
Hour of Code - Angela Adams advised that the Hour of Code was held earlier this month for students in various classes. Ms. Stearn commented that the Hour of Code gives students the opportunity to get exposure to computer coding.
IV. QUORUM FOR MEETINGS
Ms. Lesch advised that due to the fact that we did not have a quorum at the previously scheduled December 4th meeting, we had to reschedule the SAC/SAF meeting for December 20th.
V. PRINCIPAL UPDATES
Ms. Stearn was not present at the November 6th meeting and at this time wanted to respond to the question raised by Ms. Silensky in reference to the District Grading System. Ms. Stearn explained that all the Centers and Alternative schools do not receive letter grades. They are graded with school improvement ratings such as “Maintaining,” “Improving” and “Accomplished”. Ms. Stearn advised that last year Cross Creek received a “Maintaining” grade. She further advised that the District will have the same grading system for next year.

Ms. Stearn explained that through generous donations, select students received complimentary hairstyling services.
Picture Retakes:December 8th
LensCrafters:December 12th
Ms. Stearn explained that through generous donations, select students received complimentary eye exams and eyeglasses.
Talent Show:December 14th
Ms. Stearn commented that the Talent Show was a great success.
Holiday Party:December 18th
Ms. Stearn explained that through generous donations from the Pompano Beach High School Baseball Team and the High School Baseball Network (HSBN), all our elementary and middle school students received gifts from Santa. In addition, our high school students also received treats and gifts. Ms. Stearn was very appreciative for the donations, as well as for the many students from Pompano Beach High School who helped by giving out the gifts to our students.
High School
Mid-Terms:December 19th – 22nd
Winter Break:December 25th – January 5th
Ms. Stearn gave an update on the Single-Point Entry. She explainedthat the Single-Point Entry is in the process of being completed. Ms. Stearn advised that the project is expected to be completed by February 1, 2018.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
Ms. Lesch advised that the next SAC/SAF meeting will be held on February 5, 2018.
A motion to adjourn the SAC meeting was made by Mr. Cambridge at 3:20 P.M. and seconded by John Peterson.

There being no new business, Joe Castello made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:20 PM, and seconded by Martha Adams.
The next SAF meeting will be held on February 5, 2018.
