New Business
Hallandale High School
Bruce Neill asked what we are doing about Hallandale High School NATEF certification.
The committee discussed possible ways to help, but also made it clear that they are concerned about the instructor lack of attendance at our meetings and other events.
The committee needs to see some commitment from the instructor or we can’t help.
There was a discussion about having a lead tech assigned to Mr. Velez to help him through this process because he is a first year Instructor with a lot of things to deal with. All in attendance agreed that it is in everyone’s best interest for Hallandale’s Auto program to succeed, we do not want to lose any auto programs.
Don Sorrentino asked if it would be appropriate to have a letter drafted by the committee to express our concerns. We decided not to do it at this time. Steve Mazzatenta asked about the absolute deadline for NATEF and Bob Usefof explained how the Perkins funds can and cannot be used if Hallandale does not achieve accreditation.
It was decided by the committee the best course of action was to have the next meeting at Hallandale High School and let Bob Usefof make the arrangements.
March Joint Meeting
The March joint meeting was discussed and David Clark informed us that the tech centers have decided not to have the joint advisory meetings anymore. They decided the joint meetings did not achieve the desired results.
High school Programs
Bob Usefof explained the plans for our back to school training with Megatech and BEEP . The BEEP online program has all the lesson plans for all the instructors. There are 24-30 computers in each classroom, every auto student will get a login and will have access to the material on line. The academic level is geared to the student level according to their FCAT/BAT scores.
Open Discussion
David Clark stated that Sheridan Technical Center was doing fine financially even with the budget cuts.
The industry reps stated that they are slow but ok. The dealerships are hurting.
