  • Financials -Gary Reviewed the Year End Chapter Financials + Year To Date Summer Sizzle financials

Amanda Rhola – JDRF

  • Gave and overview of JDRF – How money is channelled to research – How organizations like ours play a role. Discussed goals and fundraising. Developments in the use of insulin. Clinical trials in progress. Differences between type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is autoimmune. Events – Telus walk for diabetes in June held in Stanley Park and Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford. Ride for Diabetes Research on stationary bikes which are set up in and around Vancouver. Third party fundraisers like HOG. 80% of monies raised goes to research. Beta cell implanting research beginning. Support for families, whose members are newly diagnosed. Q & A period.

Greg Huot

  • Update Mileage Program

More prizes. Prizes have increased in amount. More incentives to participate. Presented trophy to Ifan for the 2012 mileage program

  • Update Points Program

Reminded people to sign the book . Discussed a few events that would create points for members.

Prizes increased to be an incentive to participate . Those who win will not be able to win two or three years in a row so that prizes can be shared around.

Samier

  • Bring a friend is the theme. Committee is working hard to organize various aspects of the sizzle. Samier regrets that due to health issues he must step back from his involvement to look after himself. Will continue to be part of the executive and will continue to manage the H.O.G.® Store. Asked members to support the events.

Terry

  • Update on Riding and Road Captains Program ….

30 Wednesday night rides and one full day ride each month starting in April. Second Saturday of the month. First ride to Harrison Hot Springs. Lunch at Old Settler.

May- to Boston Bar and luncheon at Canyon Alpine Restaurant.

June – Whistler ride, stop at Squamish Casino. Coffee at Whistler.

July – Hwy 9 Burlington Start times depend on how long the ride is. Chuckanut ride, lunch at Keg Sports Bar. August – Mt. Baker ride. Starting from Sumas. Maple Falls restaurant.

Sept. – iron butt ride to Hope, Princeton, Merrit, Spences’s Bridge back down Fraser Canyon.

Invited others to plan a weekend ride if they wish to and Terry will move his ride to accommodate. April 6th road captains review and practise ride. Invitation to members to become road captains and take the training.

If riders get separated due to lights, etc. and the group has to split, one member will always wait at the turn so everyone gets to the destination.

Discussed standards for helmets. U.S. and Canada have the same standards. Read out the criteria. Law comes into effect in May. If police take your helmet, they can have your bike towed.

-Video nights on riding and safety in March. Members can borrow the videos and making a deposit to ensure their return.
